Congressman's Office Visits
We had an exciting visitor this week at McAuliffe! Students in our STEM I class were visited by a representative from District 48's Harley Rouda to congratulate them on their exemplary work with the Congressional App Challenge!

Students received special recognition from the Congressman's office for the Apps they imagined, designed, and coded to accomplish real world problems.

For more updates on our STEM program, please follow @mcauliffe_science_stem for important updates!
Los Al Thespian Festival
Advanced Drama rocked the Jr. Thespian Festival this past Saturday at Los Alamitos High School. Over 200 middle school students attended from 11 schools from all over California. Students participated in workshops, watched performances, and competed in individual events. All McAuliffe students received top scores, with Emily Fitzgerald, Olivia Graser, Tanner Linn, and Jonathan Reyes being chosen as "Best of Fest" for monologues and scenes.
Into Thin Air!
To help students understand the relationship between thermal energy and the rate of evaporation, these 6th grade students recorded rates of evaporation in the shade versus the sun.

Middle School Family Life for 7th and 8th Grade Students
7th and 8th grade students will participate in a Family Life unit during May 2020. Under the California Healthy Youth Act, Education Code (EC) sections 51930-51939, school districts must integrate the instruction of comprehensive sexual health education and HIV prevention education into the classroom once in middle school and once in high-school. Parents have the right to opt out of the instructional unit by stating their desire to have their child not participate in writing to their school principal.

There are two parent meetings to discuss this curriculum with our Assistant Superintendent, Mrs. Ondrea Reed.
