October’s Wellness Theme: Bullying Prevention
The October theme is “Bullying Prevention,” which includes building awareness for our students and staff around practices and resources that encourage “3 R’s: Recognize, Respond, and Report!” Our Wellness Counselors are looking forward to continuing to be in the classrooms, meeting with students, and building the foundations of wellness within our school sites. Our Wellness Counselors will be bringing information to students on how to be an “Upstander,” as well as healthy student coping skills, conflict resolution, friendship building and inclusivity through a variety of different resources.
Please be on the lookout for any updates in the school newsletters regarding any other school activities that focus on bullying prevention.
This month, all students and staff will receive a “Los Al Upstander” wristband, to encourage and remind us all of the information learned regarding bullying prevention. All wristbands will be delivered to staff and students to wear on campus to show unity for kindness, acceptance, and inclusion and to promote the message that no child should experience bullying.
Thank you for your continued participation and support of the activities each month, that will continuously remind and encourage our wellness and self-care!

Vote for School Site Council!
|
The McAuliffe School Site Council is comprised of parents, teachers, classified staff, administrators, and students and ensures McAuliffe's adherence to the District's LCAP plan. We have several parents interested in this role. When there are multiple interested parties, we hold an election to select the 5 parent representatives for the 21/22 school year. Please vote using the link below:
The School Site Council will meet to address the following:
- Obtain recommendations for, and review of, the proposed Single Plan for Student Achievement (SPSA) from all school advisory committees.
- Develop and approve the SPSA and related expenditures in accordance with all state and federal laws and regulations.
- Recommend the SPSA and expenditures to the governing board for approval.
- Provide ongoing review of the implementation of the SPSA with the principal, teachers, and other school staff members.
- Make modifications to the SPSA whenever the need arises.
- Submit the modified SPSA for governing board approval whenever a material change (as defined in district governing board policy) is made in planned activities or related expenditures.
- Regularly evaluate the progress made toward school goals to raise the academic achievement of all students.
- Carry out all other duties assigned to the council by the governing board and by state law.

Let's Celebrate AAC Awareness Month this October! Everyone has something to say. AAC gives students their voice!
We have EAGLES on campus who communicate in a variety of ways! You may communicate with your mouth, but does everyone else do that? No! Our students may use verbal speech, speech generating devices, gestures, writing, typing, echolalia, sign language, or communication boards. Even though we all communicate differently, we are all EAGLES!
What Is AAC?
Augmentative and alternative communication, or AAC, is a term that's used to describe various methods of communication that can help people communicate. AAC methods vary and may be personalized to meet each individual's needs. A major advantage of SGDs is that these devices allow an individual to say and play with words. By doing this, learners can acquire new words and language and the listener is able to understand exactly what is being expressed.
What is an SGD?
Speech-generating devices produce electronic voice output. The communicator selects the letters, words and messages, alone or in combination, to be spoken aloud in a pre-recorded or computer-generated voice (text-to-speech). Again, depending on the communicator, if selecting keys via touch isn't possible access to the device may be dependent on external aids including eye gaze, head pointing, joysticks, switches or even a combination of these.
International AAC Awareness Month is celebrated around the world each October. The goal is to raise awareness of augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) and to inform the community about the many different ways in which people communicate using communication devices! Join us at MCA as we celebrate all the ways our Eagles communicate!
