The Douglas Library is Moving &

We Need Your Help!

We are moving our library to the third floor! Last week was spent removing Gates books from the third floor and moving them downstairs, while Douglas books arrived upstairs. This week we will focus on sorting and shelving the books.

We need help Feb 12th-16th - anytime during the day from 9:15-3:30pm.

If you are available, please email Priscilla Mazzeo, [email protected], with a day and time that is convenient for you. If you can spare extra time when you will already be at the school, please let Priscilla know.

2024 Akiko Sensei Festival of Cultures

Save the date: February 29th, 6-7:30pm **SIGN UP TO PARTICIPATE** We have 7 Countries so far! We need 3 more to run the event! Click HERE to sign up by February 14!

Join the 7 countries signed up so far to showcase your family’s culture! We have China; Ireland; Romania; Thailand and Turkey, Italy and Ghana. There will be performances on the main stage that include: Irish step and Thai dance!

In 1998, the Festival of Cultures was founded by Akiko Sensei, our late Douglas Japanese teacher, to celebrate the Japanese program along with our cultural diversity.

Sign up to be an "Ambassador" for your country of choice and decorate your table to reflect your family’s heritage and traditions or to share the heritage and traditions of a country important to you or your child. "Ambassadors" set up their table to bring the country's culture to life. Play traditional music, share pictures, art forms, play games, share native food, display a flag, or whatever you feel you would like to share that best represents your country of choice for others to enjoy!

If you would like to perform a dance, play a musical instrument, or sing a song that represents your chosen country on the cafeteria stage, you can sign up to do this using the above form and you don’t need to be a country “Ambassador” to sign up to perform.

Save the date and come along to experience the wonderful cultural diversity of Douglas!

Date: Thursday, February 29th

Time: 6pm-7:30pm

Location: Douglas School Cafeteria

Douglas Teacher Wish List on Amazon

Check out our Douglas Teachers wish list here.

The teachers have been dealing with a budget freeze, not allowing them to purchase any new items with school funds. Any choices from this list would be so appreciated!

We have an Amazon Wish List that includes various items our teachers have wished for. If you would like to help make some of the wishes come true and support our teachers and students, please pick an item or two from the list to donate. The items will be shipped directly to the coordinator, who will then organize, label, and deliver them safely to the school. The list will remain active throughout the school year and we will continue to add new items as more wishes come in.

If you are a teacher at Douglas and would like to add items to the list please email Emmy Whitney at [email protected]. We hope to make your wishes come true! Thank you!

Attn 6th Grade! Calling for photos for the Yearbook!

Attention 6th Grade Parents Deadline is March 31!

Calling all 6th Grade Parents!! It is a beloved Douglas tradition to create a 6th Grade yearbook every year! To make this yearbook every bit as memorable as their years at Douglas, we would love school-related photos from Kindergarten to 6th grade of our children, and info for the “About Me” section by March 31st.

We welcome you to share pictures that cover all of the many events held at Douglas through the years: Halloween, Walk for Peace, Ice Cream Social, Old School Day, Douglas Day, Field Trips, Class Parties, Talent Shows, Culture Day etc. We can also use photos of town sports, town events, scouting events or photos from when they were on Zoom. Please avoid photos of birthday parties, siblings or non-Douglas friends. Not all photos will be used, but we will try our best to get everyone in at least once!

Photos can be emailed to us at [email protected] or uploaded directly at this link: 2024 6th Grade Yearbook Google Drive Photos

“About Me”: Your child will get their own personal section in the book! Please help us by having them fill out this “About Me” Google Form by March 31st.

The Douglas PTO graciously covers the cost of the book for all 6th Graders so your child will receive a yearbook at no cost to you. Our many thanks to the Douglas PTO!

If you have any questions or have trouble uploading/accessing the links, you can email us at [email protected].

Thank you,

The 6th Grade Douglas Yearbook Committee
