The Eagle Explains: The 'District of Cinema' podcast

By: Olivia Kozlevcar, Life managing editor (okozlevcar@theeagleonline.com)

I’m surprised I’ve been asked to write this for the second year in a row, seeing as last time I confessed my vanity to a public audience. But since The Eagle’s Silver Screen podcast “District of Cinema” was renewed for a second year, and Online Managing Editor Eliza Schloss texted me to write this, it seems that someone’s got to promote it.

“District of Cinema” was an idea formed during our Zoom year by former Silver Screen editor and AU alumnus Grace George. Tristan Au, Spenser Hoover and I were the trio that expressed interest in being involved, and once we were allowed back on campus, we worked with former Editor-in-Chief Clare Mulroy, Multimedia Managing Editor Carly Johnson and Chloe Irwin to begin it. It’s been one of the most influential activities I’ve taken up in college. It also brought me two of my best friends – Tristan and Spenser – whom I couldn’t be more grateful for.

Today, we do all kinds of crazy things on the podcast. Sometimes, we even talk about movies, including our hatred for “Don’t Look Up” (2021). In all seriousness, we’ve successfully produced 29 episodes so far, thanks to our incredible audio team which includes Natalie Flynn and Lydia LoPiccolo, and our current Editor-in-Chief, Nina Heller.

If you’re interested in cinema, musical performances or stand-up comedy, this is definitely the podcast for you. And if you’re interested in replacing me, applications will be forthcoming upon my graduation. Just know you’ve got major shoes to fill.
