News from CCA
Congratulations to Mrs. Yamauchi, Mrs. MacFarland, and Dean Loomis who applied for the CCSD Wellness Mini-grant and were awarded $1,500 for their Sensory Path project! Here is a brief look at what the team intends to do with the funds:

At Cherry Creek Academy, our Middle School students have the opportunity to be involved in a mentoring program called Peer Helpers. Within this program, our Middle School students work with our elementary students who are struggling with life skills, mostly within relationships. These Peer Helpers are trained to help mediate small issues between elementary peer groups, work with an individual student, and provide assistance in classrooms where one on one assistance is helpful. Cherry Creek Academy, like other schools, has a specific population of students who become overwhelmed and need a break in their school routine. This is where our Peer Helper students shine. They become that ‘buddy’ who shows up at their classroom and gives these students a well needed break. Most often these ‘buddy’ walks include talking with the student, however, some of our students just need a physical activity as their break.

This grant money will allow our school to create a Sensory Path that can be utilized during these ‘buddy’ walks. Implementing a Sensory Path that specifically targets movement will allow our Middle School Peer Helpers the opportunity to engage with their elementary buddies better through movement and coach them through these movements. As many as 20 walks happen daily, so this Sensory Path will be used multiple times a day. The team will now work to develop different areas inside and outside the school where a sensory path could be located.
Congratulations to our Mathletes! They did well at the Rich Morrow Challenge! Thank you to the students, and coaches Mrs. Nair and Mr. Loomis for all the hard work! Special thanks also to Mrs. Mahan for coming to cheer us on!
