 CCLA Spotlight:
CCLA students involved in the Pacoima Wash Project!

Hello Eagles!

While the school was on Spring Break, we had a great partners meeting where we started to define our identity as a collaborative and choose congruent behaviors! I wanted to thank all of the partners who took the time to get to know each other and help define our important work - Youth Speak Collective, The Gr818ers, EduCare Foundation, Pacoima Beautiful, Reading Opens Minds, College Summit, The Unusual Suspects, YPI, Project GRAD, and El Nido Family Centers/GRYD.

CCLA Students have been partnering with Pacoima Beautiful on a Pacoima Wash Vision Plan that I thought you'd be interested in. Students began looking at brown fields and abandoned lots, looking to implement parklets, community grades, and other recreational spaces. This work developed into ideas for a Pacoima Wash Greenway.

The proposal for the greenway includes the construction of a bikeway along the Pacoima Wash, allowing for safer commuting options for students to and from school, in addition to opening the area up for greater recreational use. Moreover, the bikeway will connect existing and under-construction parks as well as five schools in the area. Most important, this will be a bridge for CCLA students to the community where there are no other safe routes.

To learn more about the project and how you can get involved, please connect with our environmental after school club, Imagine Green. They'd love to share their ideas and knowledge with you and ask for your support. You can reach them via their sponsor, Sandra Ramirez - sramirez@pacoimabeautiful.org.

Featured Opportunity: Cornerstone in Pacoima TOMORROW!

Cornerstone Theater Company is coming back to Pacoima as it celebrates ten summers of making plays in communities across all of California. In September, Cornerstone will begin touring California: The Tempest, an adaption of Shakespeare's play that will include the story of communities across California, including OURS! Local community members will be both cast in the show and help with the writing.

Come out and give your feedback on our play on Thursday (tomorrow) from 6:30-8:30 pm at Youth Speak Collective (11243 Glenoaks Blvd, #10, Pacoima).

We will be reading the current draft of the play and you will get to give your input on it! We will also be holding informal auditions for the local roles. There will be multiple opportunities to audition.

Please stay tuned to hear about Cornerstone's performance in January 2015.
