Help push for a stronger Zero Waste Plan that recognizes the climate and environmental impacts of our waste stream and makes waste reduction a core element, requires Arlington County to lead by example, and addresses the potentially huge amounts of construction and demolition waste that is generated and not even tracked. You can also reduce your own impact by seeking out products that contribute to a plastic-free and zero waste lifestyle. Finally, the process for selecting candidates for the Arlington School Board is getting underway – check out the candidate’s responses to the questionnaire from EcoAction Arlington and Faith Alliance for Climate Solutions on their commitment to addressing climate change and sustainability in APS.

Ask for Stronger Action on the County's Zero Waste Plan

Arlington County is poised to adopt a new 20-year Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP). The new plan must be adopted by June 30, 2024 so we expect the County Board to advertise the updated plan at its May meeting and to adopt the new plan in June.

This gives citizens a rare opportunity to influence the future direction of waste reduction and recycling in Arlington.
