What an amazing time in the life of Saint John’s! Last weekend, I had the privilege of watching Lily Berton perform with her colleagues in the Broadway Musical, Annie. First, she and her peers did an amazing job and I, along with her parents and friends, were very proud of her. What struck me in the story, was the reminder of how love can change the future. A young girl whose future looked dim and without hope, was changed by love. By care, by compassion, by selflessness, and by courage her life was changed forever. The story of Annie actually fits in the readings for this Sunday. We never know what God can do with us if we give ourselves to him, and allow the Holy Spirit to be the “Miracle Grow” of our actions of love.

On Wednesday evening, we gathered outside on a lovely night to discuss what we had learned as individuals and as a community from the last two seasons of “The Chosen”. In our conversation, we were reminded of the importance of building community together and being intentional about spending time together, sharing our lives with each other, and growing in the faith together. When we learn to love each other, we learn the importance of loving those around us and caring for the community beyond our walls. We plan to continue gathering at different times and invite you to come! If you come to 8am Mass, come and meet and get to know the folks who come at 10am Mass. If you come at 10am Mass come and get to know the folks who attend the 8am Mass. The intentional effort to develop a broader sense of community at Saint John’s will only enhance the body of Christ.

You all have been so faithful, joyful, and excited about the things of God and what God is doing in your life and the life of the parish. Keep the faith, continue the work, and enjoy the blessings of God. Rejoice in the Lord always, and again, I say rejoice!

It is with great joy that I announce that we have a new team member! Kelly Burns joined the Saint John’s team this week as our new Administrative Assistant. She comes to us with management experience in an office environment and in public industries. She lives with her husband and daughter in Jamestown and will be in the office from Wednesday to Friday from 9 am to 5pm. You will be able to contact her via email at parishoffice@saintjohns-newport.org.

On a personal note, over the last few weeks, you have been kind and supportive while we engaged in a search for the right person. I received over 20 applications, interviewed 6 candidates, and immediately knew that Kelly was the right fit. The wardens and vestry were excited to invite Kelly to join us and she accepted! We are most blessed and look forward to a long relationship with Kelly as we labor together doing the work that God has given us to do! Say hello to Kelly and welcome her to Saint John’s!

The Samaritans have been busy with sending notes and sharing support for those who may need a little bit sunshine.

July is a 5th Sunday month. Gift Cards have allowed us to have a greater reach and impact. Cards in amounts of $25.00- $50.00 are best suited in allowing us to provide support to members of our community in greater numbers. The following are of most benefit gas, Walmart, Aldi’s, Shaw's, Stop & Shop and the Dollar Store. We wish to thank you all for your unconditional support for our ministry of out reach.
