Let us handle the hard stuff.

ELDER LAW • ESTATE PLANNING • WILLS & TRUSTS • GUARDIANSHIP & PROBATE LITIGATION

Illinois Law and Coronavirus
As with many small businesses in Illinois, we are on lockdown until April 7, 2020. For most purposes, our physical offices are closed, but all of our staff have remote capabilities, our phone system works and many of us can video conference. So we’re still here if you need us.

Unfortunately, when signing Illinois estate planning documents, Illinois law does not currently permit remote witnessing and notarization. So, you still need to meet face to face (well, 6 feet away while looking at someone else’s face) to sign certain documents, such as wills and powers of attorney. If you need that during quarantine, just let us know, and we can open the office to witness and notarize. We have enough space in our conference rooms to be socially distant.

While coronavirus is forcing many of us out of our daily routines, it’s also an important reminder to get your estate planning done. In this issue of “The Elder Law Minute,” we’ll provide helpful information on what documents your clients need to have in place to ensure documents to protect the well-being of their children, their parents and themselves. One thing’s for sure, having an estate plan in place has never been more important, and if you or your clients need help, we’re here.
MARCH'S NEWS TO KNOW
Trust in the Future
If you’ve spent time paging through the new Illinois Trust Code and wound up scratching your head, don’t worry. We speak fluent legalese and can help you sort through it. What’s important to be aware of is how changes in the law impact your estate plan, and then make the necessary changes to avoid problems down the road.
Emergency Estate Planning During the Zombie Apocalypse
It’s everywhere. You can’t tune to any media source – online, television or radio – without being inundated with news and information about coronavirus. For many people, the current crisis is acting as a wake-up call to get their affairs in order.
Firm Briefs
COVID-19 and Estate Planning
There’s no great way to say this, so we’re just going to come right out with it: Estate planning is even more important in light of the coronavirus outbreak. That’s especially true for older relatives, who are particularly vulnerable to the virus. Get the details on what you need to put in place here .

For most purposes, our physical offices are closed until April 7, but all of our staff have remote capabilities, our phone system works and many of us can video conference. If you need help with your planning, give us a call at 630-782-1766 or visit our website .
