Hello Albert,

Happy 11th. I drove out to visit my friend, Steve Rote in Ilwaco, WA a couple of days ago and was joined here by Aaron Trotter. Yesterday we visited Cape Disappointment and I spent the day driving so Aaron could sketch different parts of Long Beach, WA for his next Illustrated Playing Cards deck.

I've been a fan of gleaning for a long time. Below you can see something I'm trying out - creating more local Share in the Harvest groups in the Portland Metro area. We have one large group - but to reduce car trips and build more local communities regional groups make sense. In the first couple of days, a few of the groups have really taken off. I also harvested goji berries and asian pears!

If you have extra fruit or vegetables consider offering it to your neighbor

Share in the Harvest are social groups that connect people in the area who want to offer homegrown food. You can share veggies, herbs, fruit, eggs, and more! Please feel free to ask for what you're seeking, too. Here are some new groups I started in the last 3 days.

A lot of my time is taken up with keeping an eye on the changing nature of Covid and national politics. Regarding Covid I think that the more that unvaccinated people see videos of unvaccinated people in hospitals describing how they wish they'd gotten the vaccine before they got sick will lead to more people getting vaccinated. This seems to be one very convincing argument - at least for the people who's family member just died or suffered horribly for a couple weeks.

Hopefully, this current surge will push the vaccine-hesitant to finally get vaccinated. There does seem to be an up-tick in vaccination rates, so, we'll see. My heart goes out to all healthcare workers - they must be so exhausted by all of this and our society's stupidity at not rushing to get vaccinated. Please keep an eye out for any video showing what I describe above and send it my way. Thank you.

On a more personal note, I've been thinking about finding more work. Partly, to switch into getting compensated for what I'm mostly doing for free. But also partly to challenge myself and learn some new skills. I'm not exactly sure where this might lead, but I've been thinking about how to get public speaking skills into the hands and voices of the next generations. That is not a skill I remember learning in school and as far as I can tell it's a weakness in our society. I've done Toastmasters in the past, but I'm seeking something that's more current and accessible.

Oh, and I'm still looking for love :) I took a break from dating apps, but have rejoined them again. Feel free to set me up with someone you know :)

I hope this month's 11 finds you enjoying, learning, breathing, eating well, and staying connected. Please write back with how you're doing.

Lots of love, Albert
