The White Dress Project Celebrates 10 Years of Impact and Fibroid Awareness with "The EmPOWERment Experience" in Washington, D.C.

[Washington, D.C.]  The White Dress Project (TWDP) returns to Washington, D.C., to host its third year of The EmPOWERment Experience at The Conrad Hotel on July 11-13, 2024 in recognition of Fibroid Awareness Month! This year’s highly anticipated event will be one of the biggest and best hosted by TWDP as they celebrate 10 amazing years of impact, community, and awareness around women’s health.

The White Dress Project was founded in July 2014 when founder Tanika Gray Valbrun became inspired by her own fibroid journey after having 27 fibroids removed. “Over the past decade, we've made remarkable progress and significantly raised awareness about the profound impact uterine fibroids can have on the quality of life and health, Valbrun states. “We've revolutionized storytelling and empowered countless individuals to confidently share their stories. However, our work has just begun. Too many women still suffer in silence, and we are dedicated to changing that.”

The EmPOWERment Experience is dedicated to empowering women while raising funds and awareness about uterine fibroids. According to the National Library of Medicine, fibroids impact more than 70% of women, and for Black women, this increases to 90% by age 50, with 60% affected between ages 35-40. This year’s theme is Igniting Change: Stories that Sparked a Movement. During this 3-day event, attendees can expect:

  • A private screening of “Me Period
  • The infamous “Night in White” fundraising gala
  • A full day of informative sessions and conversations with health professionals
  • … and many more exciting activations throughout the event!

“The EmPOWERment Experience is an experience like no other. Our guests are immersed in a supportive space to connect, share stories, and learn from medical professionals,” says Danielle LeGrand, co-director of communications for The White Dress Project. “Not only will you leave having become more knowledgeable, but you'll also leave feeling encouraged, empowered, and inspired.”
