EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT

Debbie Jay Headshot

Debbie Jay

Lead Transfer Credit Evaluator

In her role for the Office of Admissions, Debbie is responsible for coordinating the timely and accurate evaluation of transfer credit from other postsecondary institutions, ensuring its most efficient use toward the completion of degree requirements.

In her nomination, it was said that: "Debbie is a lead who goes above and beyond for the Department of Admissions. When she accepted to take over the role, she learned as much as she could about the process and procedures and was very patient, professional and knowledgeable. In addition, Debbie and our management team launched the first submission form for college advisors throughout the campus to submit transfer credit errors. Due to Debbie's hard work and well organized training on transfer credit, student's transfer credit were posted before orientation and advising appointments. Advisors sent Debbie messages of appreciation because newly enrolled students were able to get adequate advising and TCR errors submitted were corrected within three days or less."

Thank you, Debbie, for your 10 months of service and all you do for Cal Poly Pomona!

What do you like most about your job?

What do you like to do when you are not working?

What is a quick tip that you want the campus to know?

"Being new to Cal Poly Pomona, I like the challenges that I have encountered with transfer credit. Also, I like the interaction within the office in which we can always count on someone to help with a project. Finally, our office finds different ways to get the staff to be engaged together such as a Book, Foodie, Office Decor, and Netflix club. Sometimes, it will make people feel that it is okay to talk among other things besides work.  "

"My favorite thing to do when I am not working is to spend time with my 2-year old son watching Blippi and Baby Shark videos on YouTube. My other passion is to take care of my succulent collections. I'm always watching videos on how to care for succulents and waiting for my plumerias to bloom. Finally, I love to find new places to eat and try new food. I have a sweet tooth, so I always look for new dessert places and boba shops."

"Teamwork is extremely crucial in my job. Without the entire effort from the Office of Admissions' staff, our Transfer Credit team would not be successful.

Communication is a key point in helping this new team become as successful as they are. Each day, we prosper from what we learn from each other everyday."
