As the California Redistricting Commission prepares to release its latest round of district maps for Congress, State Senate, and Assembly, CAUSE thanks many of you for heeding our call to action.
As a result your and CAUSE's efforts, Asian Americans are on the verge of some favorable news. In the San Gabriel Valley area, the existing 49th Assembly District, which includes Monterey Park and Alhambra, may look to be the first Asian American seat, with the Asian American population hovering around 50%.
For the senate district that encompasses San Gabriel Valley, the commission has been responsive to our input by changing it to include more Asian American communities. This senate district has gone from 25% to 29%. CAUSE continues to push the commission to incorporate other Asian communities, including Rowland Heights and Walnut. A copy of our letter can be viewed on our web site.
CAUSE will continue to analyze the output from the commission and keep you informed. After the commission finalizes and votes on these lines on Aug 15, CAUSE will have its annual political institute, slated for October, which will include top political consultants who will offer their analysis on how these new lines will affect Asian American political representation. Stay tuned.
