A Record Setting Year!
Congratulations, graduates! With the close of the school year, the SquashWise community came together for an inspiring virtual ceremony where we honored our senior class (watch the video here!) and gave out awards for Rookie of the Year, Student of the Year, and many other achievements.

All seven of our Class of 2020 high school seniors - 100% - are college-bound , headed to a variety of institutions, including Morehouse College, Dickinson College, St. Mary’s College, Bowie State University, University of Baltimore, and the Community College of Baltimore County. When our coaches delivered graduation care packages to all of our seniors, each graduate made a video to share their college plans and give advice to their peers, encouraging them to reach for their dreams.

This year, a whopping 94% of the students in our 8th grade class are headed to high schools with competitive entrance requirements , including Baltimore Polytechnic Institute, Baltimore City College, Bard High School Early College, Baltimore School for the Arts, Gilman School, Calvert Hall, McDonogh School, Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, and Archbishop Curley! This is the highest rate of acceptance that we have seen over the course of the past decade.

Each and every day, our students inspire us by showing their commitment to their goals, their support of their teammates, and their development as student-athletes. Big congratulations to all of them!

Even though graduations have come and gone, our work doesn't stop! Fitness, enrichment, and connection will continue with our 4-week virtual summer camp. More than 30 middle schoolers have signed up, and nearly all of our high schoolers have secured YouthWorks placements to expand their horizons this summer, including placements at SmartyScholars (SAT prep), Art With a Heart, Bet on Baltimore (Dent Education), Countdown to College (KIPP), and assistant counselor positions at SquashWise's camp.

Anti-Racism and Social Justice at SquashWise
A view of a recent youth-led protest from a SquashWise alumnus
At SquashWise, we stand in strong support of Black Lives Matter and social justice . We are constantly working within our organization to promote equity and practice anti-racist strategies. SquashWise granted its staff administrative time off to participate, by choice, in volunteerism, social justice action, and/or reflection. Some joined our students at a youth-led protest for Black Lives Matter. We are proud of their personal commitments to advancing equity and justice.

Keep an eye out for future announcements with ways to further engage with us as we continue this work. We have some interesting opportunities in development. Get in touch with our Executive Director, Abby Markoe , if you want to be a thought partner.
