Parade goers, following the Wyoming State Fair Parade on Saturday, Aug. 17, are invited to the Douglas Railroad Museum and Visitor Center for a BBQ. Craig Johnson, the author behind the Longmire series, will be signing copies of his books. Pulled pork will be served. Admission cost is a donation.
"Funds raised at the event," says Cindy Porter, Executive Director of The Enterprise, "will be invested in preserving our railroad heritage. Many of our rail cars need repairs to keep water and the elements from causing deterioration. The event will be family friendly and the rail cars will be open to guests." Attendees at the event can tour the depot and climb aboard the caboose, the dining car, the day coach and the sleeping car.
A raffle is also being held to support the museum. Glen and Sherry Morovits have donated a weekend stay at their cabin in Deadwood, South Dakota. Also included in the prize are round trip tickets on the 1880 Train. The train picks up passengers in either Hill City, South Dakota or Keystone, South Dakota for a scenic round-trip ride. Raffle tickets for a chance to win the excursion are available week-long at the Douglas Railroad Museum & Visitor Center and will be sold at the BBQ. The drawing will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 17. Cost for tickets is $10 each or 3 for $20.
