“Hope Is Already Here”: Deanery 2 Welcomes Bishop Antonio
People from across Deanery 2 – Tri-Valley gathered at St. Martin in-the-Fields in Winnetka with Bishop Antonio for conversation, connection, and an open Q&A about the life and ministry of their congregations hosted by the vicar, the Rev. Gabriel Ferrer.
Bishop Antonio shared a message of hope rooted in the work already taking place across the Diocese: “There is great work already happening in our congregations.”
He reflected on love as a call to care for others, see their needs, and meet them—and on truth as understanding our responsibility to one another.
Together, Deanery 2’s gathering offered a simple reminder: the work of love, care, and community is already underway.

Diocese to Offer Audit Workshops and New Congregational Resources
The Administration and Finance team, led by The Rev. Canon Susan Stanton, has begun a new series of audit workshops and resources to help congregations complete their annual audits with greater confidence and less stress.
The initiative includes a new diocesan Audit Workbook, along with in-person workshops, live Zoom training, and on-demand video resources designed to guide parish audit teams through the annual audit process while strengthening sound accounting practices and internal controls.

La Diócesis ofrecerá talleres de auditoría y nuevos recursos para las congregaciones
El equipo de Administración y Finanzas, dirigido por la Rvda. Canóniga Susan Stanton, ha iniciado una nueva serie de talleres y recursos sobre auditorías para ayudar a las congregaciones a completar sus auditorías anuales con mayor confianza y menos estrés.
La iniciativa incluye un nuevo Manual Diocesano de Auditoría, además de talleres presenciales, capacitaciones en vivo por Zoom y recursos en video disponibles bajo demanda. Estos materiales están diseñados para guiar a los equipos parroquiales de auditoría durante el proceso anual, al mismo tiempo que fortalecen las buenas prácticas contables y los controles internos.

Donations Requested for Families Affected by ICE Activity
Hollywood supplies low
St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Hollywood is collecting essential supplies for families affected by recent ICE activity. Because pantry inventory is running low, donations are urgently needed to help meet immediate needs, including food, hygiene products, cleaning supplies, and household basics.
Those who prefer to contribute financially can also donate through the links and payment options listed on the flyer at left.

Province VIII Creation Care Conference set for Sept. 25–27
The Province VIII Creation Care Conference will be held Sept. 25–27, 2026, in Salt Lake City, bringing Episcopalians together for spiritual formation, environmental education, and practical tools for caring for creation.
The conference will address environmental concerns across Province VIII, including fire, water, land and fossil fuel consumption, while exploring ways communities can respond and build resilience.
The Diocese of Los Angeles will be represented by the Rev. Payton Hoegh and Grace Wakelee-Lynch, who will lead sessions on spiritual grounding for creation care and disaster recovery and resilience.

La Province VIII Creation Care Conference se llevará a cabo del 25 al 27 de septiembre de 2026 en Salt Lake City, reuniendo a episcopales para la formación espiritual, la educación ambiental y herramientas prácticas para el cuidado de la creación.

Episcopal Church invites applicants for creation care grants, with new emphasis on eco-regions
[Episcopal News Service] The Episcopal Church is relaunching its creation care grant program, now with an emphasis on supporting local ministries connected to the church’s expanding eco-region framework.
The church will accept proposals from now until Oct. 26 for grants of up to $15,000 to fund projects involved with “nature restoration, regenerative agriculture, climate advocacy, and environmental justice,” according to an Aug. 18 church news release announcing the latest round of grants.
Applications for the grants, the first to be awarded from the creation care program since late 2024, will be collected by the churchwide creation care office and evaluated by the 12 eco-region networks, which include 55 Episcopal dioceses. Proposals should “align with network priorities, demonstrate understanding of local issues and context, show potential for partnerships with organizations doing similar work and include meaningful involvement and feedback from people who would benefit from the project.” Proposals from dioceses that are not yet connected to an eco-region also will be considered.

Indiana bishops, dioceses offer prayers and resources as deadly extreme weather continues statewide
[Episcopal News Service] Northern Indiana Bishop Douglas Sparks and Indianapolis Bishop Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows offered prayers as the state continues to experience thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, tornadoes and severe flooding. The storms began on Aug. 11, killing at least seven people, displacing at least 1,000 people and causing power outages.
Sparks has been communicating with clergy, lay leaders and Episcopal Relief & Development to assess how best to assist with relief efforts across the South Bend-based Diocese of Northern Indiana, especially Lake, Porter and LaPorte counties, which were the most heavily impacted. None of the churches have sustained major damage, but some remain without power. No injuries have been reported.
Two of Sparks’ biggest concerns, however, are caring for the elderly and feeding people who can’t store food.
