Applications for bishop diocesan to close June 27
By the Rev. KC Robertson and Thomas Diaz, Bishop Search Committee Co-Chairs
Just three days to go! We’re down to the wire. The deadline for applications for our eighth bishop diocesan is at 11:59 p.m. Pacific Time on Friday, June 27.
There’s a sense of charged anticipation — not from fear, but from how much this opportunity means to us. We’re invested, ready, and full of hope for what’s next.
What a long way we’ve come. There was the first organizing meeting back in November at St. Paul’s Commons, when a roomful of 19 strangers from all around the diocese started to morph from a committee into a community.
There were the listening sessions … our Holy Cow! survey … months of gathering information and writing a profile … developing an application form and questions for the candidates … publicizing the profile throughout the wider Church … reaching out to prospective candidates and seeking nominations … and now, waiting to see who feels a call to become our next bishop.
All of it wrapped in, grounded in, and bookended by prayer: for our diocese, for ourselves, and for the candidates, even before we know who they are.

Visiting St. Nicholas of Myra Church, Encino
June 22, 2025
After church today, what did you talk about at coffee hour? I was at St. Nicholas of Myra in Encino. After 37 confirmations, two first communions, and a delicious lunch, a woman told me that she has figured out how to track ICE sightings on her phone so she can tell her mother how to get to work safely. What an all-American story that is, huh?

Navajoland officially becomes missionary diocese through Executive Council vote
By David Paulsen
[Episcopal News Service] The Episcopal Church welcomed its newest diocese on June 24 – the Missionary Diocese of Navajoland – though, as Navajo Episcopalians and church leaders noted, the elevation of Navajoland from an Episcopal mission formalizes a reality already felt for years in Navajo Nation communities.
“Navajoland was already living as a missionary diocese in spirit and practice,” GJ Gordy, an Executive Council member from Navajoland, said before the council voted to accept the missionary diocese’s new constitution. “This is not just a structural change. It is recognition of our readiness to lead ourselves.”
