June 1 stewardship conference at Cathedral Center will follow ‘Way of Love’ to abundance
The Program Group on Stewardship and Development invites the diocesan community to participate in its annual Stewardship Conference on Saturday, June 1, 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Cathedral Center — and also available via livestream video.

Keyed to Presiding Bishop Michael Curry’s “Way of Love” initiative, the conference will feature an address by Bishop John Harvey Taylor, and workshops led by stewardship experts from around the diocese. Each congregation is invited to send a stewardship team to the meeting, or participate via the livestream, which will be available through the Stewardship Conference Facebook group here. Remote participants should join the group before the event.

The program will begin with registration, followed by Taylor’s keynote address, workshop sessions, lunch, and a second set of workshops, concluding at about 2 p.m. Congregation teams should bring a picnic lunch and sit as a group during the lunch break to talk about what they are learning. Individuals attending without a team are asked to bring a lunch and join a similar discussion with Bishop Suffragan Diane Jardine Bruce.

Interdependence Walking Meditation set for morning of July 4 in Echo Park
All are welcome to join in the fifth annual Interdependence Day Walking Meditation around Echo Park Lake starting at 10 a.m. on July 4, hosted by the Interfaith Cooperative of the Episcopal Diocese of Los Angeles. Again this year, the .9-mile walk will feature seven stations at which participants will stop and hear brief reflections and prayers from various faith traditions, including Bahai, Buddhist, Christian, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim, and Sikh. The goal is to demonstrate interfaith interdependence and solidarity on the U.S. Independence Day national holiday. The walking meditation is being planned by the diocese’s interfaith ministers-in-residence; Sable Manson, Tasneem Noor, and Tahil Sharma. Gathering will be at 10 a.m. on the plaza of the Cathedral Center of St. Paul, 840 Echo Park Avenue, across the street from the park. Ample free parking is available on two levels at the Cathedral Center. Participants are encouraged to wear hats and apply sun screen for the observance, which is set to last about 75 minutes. The diocesan community is invited to join in a Hawaiian Luau at the Cathedral Center of St. Paul on Saturday, June 8, 6 - 9 p.m., to support the New Ministry Scholarship Fund for EAM-LA (Episcopal Asiamerican Ministries - Los Angeles). Tickets, which include admission and food, are $30 for adults and $15 for children ages 5 - 12 (children under 5 are free). Drinks will be sold separately. St. George's, Riverside, invites community to neighborhood fair
St. George's Episcopal Church, Riverside, invites all to its Love Your Neighbor Neighborhood Fair, a day of free fun and entertainment for all ages, on Saturday, June 15, 11 a.m. - 2 p.m. The event is the finale of four neighborhood fairs held at St. George's in recent weeks as part of its Abundant Table Gatherings. There will be free food, games, opportunity drawings and crafts, plus musical entertainment by Richard Lamb's Crossroads band, which performs classic rock and blues with Christian lyrics. Kaleidoscope's Summer Institute to provide leadership training courses
The Kaleidoscope Institute, a program of the Diocese of Los Angeles, will hold its Summer Institute July 23 - 27 at the Cathedral Center of St. Paul, 840 Echo Park Avenue, Los Angeles. The institute is based on Kaleidoscope's comprehensive leadership programs including intercultural competency, anti-racism training, building inclusive community, new ministry incubation, stewardship, community transformation and congregational vitality. Stillpoint retreat will offer a day of self-care for people engaged in ministry
Stillpoint: The Center for Christian Spirituality will hold its annual Retreat for Spiritual Directors and Soul-Care Workers on Saturday, June 15, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. at the Holy Spirit Retreat Center, 4316 Lanai Road, Encino 91436. The retreat, intended for clergy and lay people engaged in ministry, will be a time "to rest in the care and tending of your own soul. Spend time in silent contemplation, sacred movement, holy listening, and enriching community where nothing is required or expected, but much will be offered." Sacred Ground race dialogue series informational webinar is June 11, 2019
 Individuals or groups interested in learning more about Sacred Ground, a film-based dialogue series on race and faith, are invited to an introductory webinar hosted by Katrina Browne, Sacred Ground curriculum developer, and producer/director of the acclaimed documentary Traces of the Trade: A Story from the Deep North, and the Rev. Canon Stephanie Spellers, canon to the Presiding Bishop for evangelism, reconciliation, and creation care. Built around a curriculum of powerful documentary films, videos, and readings, Sacred Ground is a 10-part series that considers some of the major chapters of the United States of America’s history of race and racism. It focuses on Indigenous, Black, Latino, and Asian American histories as they intersect with European American histories. It also invites participants to weave in the threads of personal and family story, economic class, and political and regional identity. Brad Karelius will be among presenters for men's spirituality series
The Rev. Brad Karelius, retired rector of Church of the Messiah, Santa Ana, will be among the presenters for "On the Road: A Spirituality Series for Men" at Emmaus Spiritual Ministries July 13, Aug. 3, Sept. 22, Dec. 7 and Feb. 1 (2020). Karelius, author of several books on spirituality, will lead the Aug. 3 retreat, titled " A Journey in the Desert: A Spiritual Treasure Map."
