We have been knee deep in hiring around here. Well, what I really mean is, Amanda has been knee deep in hiring around here. People shift, change, move. Some people leave because they think my stories are lame. Shrugs - what do you do? You hire.
In order to fill positions, Amanda has taken on this HR role and it is INSANE. She reads countless resumes, talks to a gazillion people, schedules countless interviews (maybe 1 out of 4 actually show up for it), and pushes the right people forward for FGS. It's a huge deal and without the right people, we can't be amazing. Basically, Amanda helps us be amazing which then we pass on to you.
One particular day, she introduces a new employee to us, and I'm having a brief conversation and introduction since he would be on our landscape team. Do you ever have a moment where you open your mouth and the thing you say comes out completely wrong? I don't know about you, but I intend to take this up with God and why He felt that needed to be part of my "gifting" and DNA. It's just not funny.
So I'm standing there and somewhere in the conversation Amanda was referring to my role and then I say, "Yes! And Amanda is my evil twin." WHAT? WWWHHHAAATTTTT? I know, right? What the literal heck?! I meant she is my twin. But clearly, she jumped on me and asked, "Oh! So that means YOU are the GOOD twin?!" I'm stuttering, because in my head, I knew what I was saying. What I meant was we are twins--basically the same person, good and bad! We drive Scott NUTS. He is on the second floor, and I'm on the first floor and this saves our marriage. But with Amanda, it's like he is working with me all day and then coming home with me again. It's hysterical -- maybe not for him.
All I know is I have decided I need an eject button. I need to be able to hit that thing and send myself through the roof or right into the floor. Teleportation. I say this and then they tell me I need a pet collar so they can zap me. It's true, I'm ridiculous. I need zapped. Hard.
What does this have to do with plants? Nothing, absolutely nothing. Except for the fact that plants don't respond, I don't hurt their feelings and they still live with me. Maybe you should try a plant if you can relate. Does anyone else need an eject button?? Peace Lily??? Anyone??
Happy January, friends!

JUDY'S HOUSEPLANT PICK
Monstera Adansonaii, also known as a Swiss Cheese Plant, is Judy's pick this week. We have this popular and hard to find beauty in 4-in containers or in 8-in hanging pots. Whether you go big or small, we are pretty sure you will be delighted. Set or hang them where they can receive bright, indirect light and keep them consistently moist but not wet.

'CANDYTUFT' GROUND COVER
Iberis, 'Candytuft', is a gorgeous evergreen ground color that blooms adorable white flowers in the winter through early spring. The blooms can be so prolific they can cover the entire plant! To perform its best, plant Candytuft in well-drained soil in an area receiving full sun. It grows to 6 to 12 inches tall and wide. Rabbits and deer should steer clear. Use in containers, borders, or as a "spill"!

VALENTINE'S DAY IDEAS
OK, you love birds. Valentine's Day is right around the corner. Ditch the cut-flower idea this year and go with a houseplant and pot combo! We have so many varieties of both to choose from. A really popular choice this time of year would be Anthurium, which has heart-shaped blooms, or the Hoya Kerri Heart which is literally a plant heart growing in soil! How cute is that?!?

ALL of our trees
(except Japanese Maples) are
40% OFF
THIS
Thursday, Friday and Saturday
!! And before you ask, YES, you CAN plant now.
Just make sure to dig the hole big enough and water well once you have planted. Water thoroughly at least once a week if we are not getting soaking rains. And by thoroughly, we mean water slowly and deeply so the root ball doesn't dry out and cause stress to your new tree.
