I have spent the last few months connecting with various local groups and individuals who offer essential, much-needed support to deserving community members. Our aim is to increase awareness of the organization, and develop a strong liaison relationship. A liaison will be vital in helping achieve our long term goal of identifying and supporting a local Valley family as they work towards home ownership. We are also in initial phases of the process to support two families in other Nova Scotia communities.
Mark your calendars for our upcoming Hope in Motion Relay from September 18-20! Everyone is welcome to participate in the entire distance or just one segment. The event includes a 3km walk, a 10km run, and a 150km bike ride. The event will take participants from Wolfville to Annapolis Royal on day one, and back from Annapolis Royal to Wolfville on day two. All proceeds from this event will be dedicated to supporting families through A Home for Everyone.

Refreshing your outdoor space doesn’t require a landscaping crew or a massive budget! Often, the biggest "wins" come from deep cleaning and small, intentional styling choices that make the area feel lived-in rather than left-behind. Whether you are settling in to your home for your first summer, or are planning to list, here is a list of high-impact, low-cost ideas to revitalize your space:
The "Deep Clean" - Before buying anything new, reclaiming the space from winter provides an immediate visual shift.
- Power Wash: Rent or borrow a pressure washer for the patio, siding, and walkways.
- Edge the Lawn: Using an edging tool to create a crisp line between your grass and garden beds/walkways creates an instant "professional" look.
- Prune and Weed: Remove dead winter growth and clear out weeds. Freshly exposed soil or a fresh layer of mulch always looks cleaner.

Strategic Lighting - Lighting defines the mood after the sun goes down and makes a small space feel larger.
- String Lights: "Cafe" or Edison-style string lights are affordable and provide a high-end, cozy atmosphere.
- Solar Path Lights: Use these to define the borders of a walkway or a garden bed.
- Up-lighting: Place a few inexpensive solar spotlights at the base of a tree or a large architectural plant to create dramatic shadows.

Textile & Surface Refresh
- Outdoor Rugs: A bold outdoor rug can hide a stained or cracked patio and anchor your furniture.
- Paint/Stain: A single gallon of porch paint or stain can transform a tired wooden deck or concrete slab.
- Clean or Replace Cushions: Often, a cycle in the wash with some OxiClean is enough. If they're beyond repair, just replacing the throw pillows can change the entire feel of the space.

Your referrals and feedback are truly the highest compliment! If you've enjoyed our working relationship, I would be honored if you would consider leaving a Google review or sending along a brief testimonial that I can use in my marketing materials.
If you know someone considering buying or selling in the area, please feel free to pass along my contact information. Working with a referral is exciting because I know the person will be wonderful, coming from someone I already trust and respect. Thank you for your continued support!

Spring has officially sprung, and I'm enjoying the season's little victories! My pepper and tomato seedlings are thriving, and I'm eager to see how my new IKEA greenhouse performs this year. A clever tip from someone to use strongly scented soap as a deer deterrent seems to be working; my daffodils have never lasted this long!
Avon Valley’s Sip & Stroll event was a great kick off to the season, walking amongst thousands of hanging baskets and planters destined for front steps and patios across the province! I picked up a new houseplant, a bouquet of roses, and enjoyed a local cider from Brig & Barq.

I'm looking forward to some travel as well: a trip to Alberta to celebrate Mother’s Day with my Mom in Calgary, followed by my annual sisters' trip to Saskatchewan. It’s always wonderful to return home for a visit and time to reconnect and recharge!
At home, we are eager to experience our first season with our new patio. I anticipate many quiet hours out there with a coffee or a glass of wine, relaxing rather than looking at an overwhelming project! Mittens has been enjoying her time outside soaking in the sun, listening to birds, and occasionally making a break for the green grass below. I am hoping to grow some cat grass on the patio to save her the trip!
Whether you're tending your garden, planning a getaway, undertaking home improvements, or settling into a new place, I wish you and your family a Spring filled with happiness!
Warmly,
