The Falcon Flyer - Website Edition
December 17, 2021
Dear Rondout Families, Faculty and Friends,

We had a great day today at Rondout enjoying the energy of the season and the comfort of cozy day.   The last few days before winter break will bring the calendar year to a close with a variety of themed activities. We hope you will join us for our Holiday Band Concert which will be broadcast on zoom on Wednesday, December 22, 2021 at 1 p.m.

In January, our students ( K-7) will be taking a series of field trips to Illinois Beach State Park to participate in workshops about the park and birds in the ecosystem. We have been coordinating the trips with Leah Bieniak, the conservation educator at the Nature Center. It has been quite some time since this type of programming has been available. We are excited about being able to participate in this experience. Weather will determine the balance between outdoor and indoor learning.

Permission slips will go out to the 3-5 cluster next week for their trips on 1/13/2022. K-2 will be visiting on 1/26/2022 and 6 and 7 will visit on 1/27/2022. The K-2 and 6-7 permission slips will go out once we return after winter break. These trips will lead up to a live virtual field trip to spend time with the penguins at the Shedd Aquarium on February 1st as we continue our school wide study of birds.

We will also be asking families to participate in the 25th annual Great Backyard Bird Count sponsored by the National Audubon Society in mid-February. Looking forward to our last few days of learning before winter break.

Be safe... Take care,,,
Until next time,
Dr. Jenny Wojcik

Greetings Staff and Families,

It was a wonderful wintery week here at Rondout. This week, there have been some phenomenal lessons and learning taking place in classrooms. Sixth grade students learned about the Aurora Borealis in science, while third grade enjoyed shopping in their class store. Kindergarten and first grade took advantage of Cozy Day to snuggle up and read some good books, while eighth grade continues their study of Anne Frank in literacy. Word clouds, art projects, snowman challenges, and some playtime Gaga ball were other fantastic learning opportunities for students.

Next week, students will participate in a variety of winter activities. Wednesday, we encourage all students and staff to participate in our Sparkle Day. Wear something that is sparkly, or makes you feel sparkly inside. I hope you all enjoy the weekend and I look forward to next week.

Best regards,
Elizabeth Davis

Farewell Dash
Dash has been a fixture at Rondout for at least a dozen years. He started out in the first grade with Mrs. Roxanne Greenberg and moved to the science room when Mrs. Greenberg retired. Mrs. Parkerson and her students have been the caretakers for Dash since that time. No one was really certain of Dash's age and Russian tortoises can live to 50 plus years of age. Sadly Dash became ill and even with the best veterinary intervention did not survive. He brought joy to many student over the years.. Many will remember how his presence in their classroom added a special touch to leaning. Farewell old friend.
Shield Testing will be Tuesday mornings starting at 8:00 a.m.
  • Please remember you must refrain from eating or drinking or brushing your teeth 45 minutes prior to testing
