Greetings from the PTO President
As the old Staples commercial goes - it's the most wonderful time of the year! It's back to school time! I love this time of year, and not only because my kids were at home all summer attending Camp Mom, I'm Bored. No, back to school means a fresh start for everyone, while getting back to our routines. It's seeing old friends, while making new ones. It's learning something new every day, while polishing up old skill sets (patience in the car line is tops on my list). I hope this new year at Valley Forge Elementary is your child's best one yet, and the PTO will do our best to make sure it is!

Our first event is the Back to School Social on Friday, September 14, from 5:30 - 7:30. Come enjoy some Kona Water Ice, courtesy of the PTO, while meeting other families of VFES! It's a great kickoff to the school year!

If you are interested in joining the PTO, we would love to have you attend our first meeting on Friday, September 7, at 9 am, in the large group room. Small children are always welcome! Come out and hear what exciting opportunities and events we have planned for this year. If you are curious about immediate open positions, please click here. We welcome any parent, grandparent, or caregiver. Many volunteer opportunities for the district require background clearances, please click here to start the process.

If you are new to VFES, I encourage you to check out our website here. From schedules to event information, it has it all! Connect with us on Facebook at Valley Forge Elementary PTO - it's a closed group, so please answer the questions or you will not be approved. Finally, if you have any questions about the PTO, please do not hesitate to reach out to me directly at [email protected].

Here's to a great school year!

Back to School Greetings from Mrs. Wills
Dear VFES Families,
Welcome to the 2018-19 school year, and a special welcome to families who recently moved to the area! The start of a new school year always brings excitement and anticipation. We are fortunate to have a community that supports our schools, parents who are involved with their children and caring, talented staff members who work diligently and are dedicated to helping develop our most precious resource, our children. Best of all, we have a great group of kids!

We see parents as true partners in the education of their children. Working together we can make this the best school year ever. The staff at VFES spent time this summer reenergizing and gearing up to enter the new school year refreshed and with a renewed dedication to the academic achievement of our students and to promoting a nurturing and caring environment. Recognizing our students' emotional, social and physical needs, we promote their growth by helping them become critical thinkers, problem solvers, effective communicators and caring individuals. This is accomplished through a meaningful curriculum, excellence in instruction and continuous communication among parents, teachers and students.

During professional development days in June, the teachers enhanced a variety of curricular programs and revised instructional activities. Teachers worked with their grade level colleagues both across the District and within their building teams to plan for the 18-19 school year.

Last year students did an excellent job with our building theme, "We are all part of Team VFE!" We focused on 6 key characteristics throughout the year. Students learned how important it is to respect others, take thoughtful risks, learn from mistakes, dream big, try hard and celebrate success.  Students worked hard to earn touchdowns, baskets and goals throughout the year. We are proud of the students' accomplishments. For the 2018-19 school year our building theme will focus on "Looking for the Good." This will be done in a variety of ways throughout the year with emphasis on teaching resiliency skills, kindness, respect and inclusiveness.

We are excited that school has begun and look forward to the educational opportunities that lie ahead. Know that everyone at VFES is committed to working with you to support your child's journey.
Best wishes for a wonderful school year!

Sincerely,

Rebecca Wills
Principal
