I blinked and somehow it's almost the end of January! I can't believe that we're half way through the school year, and some of our school's best events haven't even occurred!
Thanks to the hard work of our Cultural Arts VPs - Simmer Marcelli and Susan McGowan - VFES students will be experiencing some amazing programs these next few weeks to help break up the winter doldrums!
Kindergarten will visit Eastern University's Planetarium on January 25, and will have a fun Valentine's Day Program to look forward to.
First grade will be visited by the Academy of Natural Science in collaboration with their rainforest project. Once completed, you really need to visit the school to see how beautiful the first grade hallway looks (and keep an eye out for a call for volunteers, first grade parents! The murals are big, beautiful, and need a lot of hands!)
Second grade will be enjoying their Chinese Round Robin on January 30, and again, it's a wonderful day to help volunteer.
Third grade just had a visit by Betsy Ross (see School News for more information).
On January 29, Fourth grade will be visited by Thomas Jefferson in Kit's Interactive Revolutionary Theater.
School wide - Art Goes to School will be February 5-9, and that is something all the kids really look forward to.
Of course, our wonderful Cultural Arts programs are supported by fundraisers throughout the year, including some new local restaurants who have agreed to donate a percentage of sales back to school. I know I enjoy a night off from cooking dinner! Look for a flyer in the coming weeks.
I would be remiss to not mention that we are gearing up for our biggest fundraiser of the year, our Spring Fair! I am thrilled to welcome back Alison Murray as chair, and if you know me well, you know I may be even more excited about our theme. A hint - it's in a galaxy far, far away. So save the date for Spring Fair on May the 4th! We need a lot of volunteers to make it the success it has been, so I hope you will join in on the fun! Our kickoff meeting is on Friday, February 2 at 9am in the cafeteria.
Lastly, thanks to everyone who donated socks to our Dr. Martin Luther King Service Project. It was a huge success, and we look forward to expanding on Dr. King's legacy in the years to come.
Enjoy the nice weather and Go Birds!
