Advocacy Continues Around FY24 Budget

The Arc of New Jersey continues to push for increased funding in the State Budget ws we head into the final weeks of the fiscal year. Throughout the past few months, The Arc of New Jersey met one-on-one with members of the Senate and Assembly Budget Committees to discuss our organization's priority funding needs for FY24. We thank everyone who participated in our recent action alert and we ask you to keep an eye out for future opportunities to advocate as we finish out the remainder of FY23.

Exploring a Closer Look: "Criminal Recidivism: A Neurological Perspective"

Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at 2:30pm

Presenter: Dr. Jerrod Brown Ph.D., M.A., M.S., M.S., M.S.

Criminal recidivism (e.g., reoffending, rearrest, and/or reconviction) is a complex and multifaceted topic that is likely influenced by several prenatal and postnatal neurological, biological, social, family, and psychological factors. This training will examine the neurobiopsychosocial factors associated with criminal recidivism through a neurocriminological lens. Neurocriminology is an interdisciplinary subfield of criminology that incorporates methodological approaches from neuroscience, physiology, genetics, biology, and psychology. The goal of neurocriminology is to better understand, predict, prevent, and treat antisocial, criminal, and violent behaviors. Implications for intake, screening, and intervention will also be discussed during this training.

CSOC Summer Camp Services
For 2023, the Children's System of Care (CSOC) will be providing Summer Camp Services to eligible children, youth, and young adults under 21 years of age. These services include Financial Support toward Summer Camp Tuition and One-to-One Aide Services for Summer Camp.

Also this year, the Department of Children and Families (DCF) and CSOC are introducing Alternative Recreational Sessions (ARS) as an additional component of Summer Camp. ARS provides youth an opportunity to engage in a recreational activity with peers within the community, on a per session basis, rather than a full day of camp. This shorter time frame will increase camp access for youth who may benefit from a brief structured period compared to a longer traditional camp day.

Completed applications for CSOC Summer Camp Services (Financial Support toward Summer Camp Tuition and One-to-One Aide Services for Summer Camp) must be postmarked or received by PerformCare no later than June 30th, 2023. Your application must be complete for the services requested for it to be considered.

Parents and Guardians can now apply online for CSOC Summer Camp Services through the PerformCare Family Portal.

The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute developed a checklist and guide to help you with CSOC's camp application process. Check out The Arc of New Jersey Family Institute's CSOC Summer Camp webpage here. Links, dates and other important information can be found in the materials below.
