ECE TRIS Outage

As we have been informed by the Division of Child Care and ECE-TRIS, some changes are being made in our Training Platform. We will be transitioning over to an updated Professional Development Registry called the Commonwealth Offerings for Learning and Training (COLT) System.

During this transition process, the ECE-TRIS system will be unavailable from June 13th until July 31st.

This blackout period takes place during the end of the training year for the majority of child care providers.

The Division of Child Care is looking into an alternative way to submit training(s) completed during the blackout period. The Division of Regulated Child Care will not be reviewing training records or issuing deficiencies based on training completion beginning June 13th until October 2nd.

Please Contact dccpdstaff@ky.gov with any training transition questions.

Regulation Reminder: Licensed Type II Programs Only

As the Division of Child Care has shared recently, ALL Licensed Programs have received a Regulation update that will begin being identified during Annual Inspections beginning July 1st, 2025. There was a Division of Child Care Town Hall Meeting on June 17th to discuss how they are going to be looking to ensure ongoing compliance for the new Regulations, and that recording, with the FAQ, is now available. The recording and FAQ were sent out in a Division of Child Care Listserv Email, however if you are missing the email, please contact your Family Child Care Specialist for the information!

These new Regulations apply to Licensed Type I and Licensed Type II Programs only, as of right now. If you are a Certified or Registered Relative Care Provider, these new updates do not apply, as of right now.

Baking Soda Fireworks

For this activity, you will need:

  • Food Coloring
  • Baking Soda
  • Vinegar
  • Spoon or Medicine Dropper
  • Baking Sheet or Plate

To start, sprinkle some baking soda on your baking sheet in an even layer. Add a few drops of food coloring on top, and let the food coloring soak into the baking soda. When you’re ready, use a medicine/liquid dropper and put a few drops of vinegar on top of your food coloring drops. This will create an “explosion” as the vinegar and baking soda react to one another! To do multiple rounds, you may need some paper towels nearby to dry up any extra vinegar in the pan. For Older Children: Let them add the drops of Food Coloring and Vinegar in!

Questions to think:

  • When do we watch fireworks?
  • I wonder what will happen when we add some vinegar to the baking soda. What do you think will happen?
  • Can we mix our colors together? What do you think will happen when we do that?
