Help Me Grow! ASQ Developmental Screener!

As we get into the groove of a new school year, it is important to make sure we are evaluating children’s developmental goals and abilities in order to find new ways to promote growth.

Developmental Screeners can help notify when a child may need more assistance in an area of development. And Developmental Screeners provide Child Care Professionals a reliable tool to be able to provide feedback and supports to families.

The partners at Help Me Grow! Work with Child Care Professionals to complete the Ages and Stages Developmental Screener.

You can follow the link below to get started!

Kids Corner

November is a great month to focus on Social Emotional Development!

For infants: Ask families to bring in photos of family members to create a “my family” book.

Spend some time going through the children’s books together and talk about family relationships!

For Toddlers: Practice identifying emotions. Singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It”, practicing making faces in mirrors, and using puppets to show emotions can help children understand what they’re feeling.

For Preschoolers: Spread out a long piece of paper on the floor with a variety of art materials (crayons, markers, stickers, etc.) and encourage the class to contribute to a group mural. You can provide them with ideas or you can let them create on their own. Having something shared amongst the whole class creates a sense of unity in their classroom environment.

For School Age: Set up a prompt in the writing area asking them to think back on their favorite moments from this year. Spending time reflecting on the year helps boost memory and encourages feelings of accomplishment and satisfaction.

The Local Hotspot

This past July, our Family Child Care Network of KY celebrated reaching 5 years of coverage!

We want to take some time this November to share our gratitude:

To the Division of Child Care and Division of Regulated Child Care for supporting our Specialists and Providers;

To the Family Child Care Specialists who have been essential in the creation and maintenance of the Network;

To the community members who sponsor family events and resources;

And to many more partners than we could ever dream to list;

But especially to our Family Child Care Providers that we serve.

Thank you for trusting us, building relationships with our Specialists, and relying on us to help you through the daily challenges of offering child care over these past few years. We are excited to see how far we’ve come, and we look forward to celebrating so many more years together!

Regulation Reminder

Closure Reporting:
As we approach the end of the year, we want to remember that any time you close your program, even for an afternoon, you must still inform the cabinet that your program has closed for the day. Whether it is due to illness, doctor’s appointments, scheduled closures, or other, it is important to keep the Division of Regulated Child Care informed.

Professional Development

Please get ready to Save the Date for our Annual Family Child Care Conference! This is our conference that we host JUST for Family Child Care Programs across the state of Kentucky. If you want to network with other Family Child Care Programs, complete some training hours, and attend a Fantastic Awards Ceremony, save the date and check back in for when Registration goes live! See you in Covington!

In addition, the WKU Family Child Care Network is still offering by request training.

If you contact our main office at 270-745-2216, we can set you up with one of our trainers to help get a training that suits your and your programs needs.
