Autumn Activities with CACFP

This season, the CACFP Autumn Activity Page offers fun ways to combine nutrition, creativity, and movement for children. Families can enjoy making Peanut Butter & Apple Wraps together, a quick and healthy snack. Children can also get creative with an apple core paper plate craft while practicing counting and number recognition. For active play, try an apple relay outdoors or an “Apple Tree” circle-time chant indoors. These simple activities help children explore healthy foods, stay active, and enjoy the fall season in meaningful ways.

Meal Requirements

When planning out your menu, you need to make sure you are offering all the required meal components. We all know children can be picky eaters, but did you know that children are more likely to try something if they see other people they trust enjoying it first?
Think about all the times you have gotten a child to eat something in your program that the parent tells you they never eat at home. Children become adventurous when they see their friends being adventurous too! So, while we do need to have all the required meal components, we should also keep in mind that having a variety of foods, and letting them try it on their own terms, can help children receive the nutrients they need and find new favorites!
