MVBC Family Happenings
Greetings church family! This Sunday and Wednesday, we will have our second Grace and Truth Discussion event. The topic for this discussion is “Church Leadership and Decision Making.” This topic was initiated as a result of the church assessment that was completed at the end of last year. Through the surveys people completed, there seems to be confusion regarding our church’s polity (the way MVBC is governed). To address this confusion, we decided to take a stepped approach toward clarity. First, I preached a series on the glory of God to establish the goal of doing all things for that purpose. Second, last Sunday, I transitioned to a more specific series of how God can be glorified through MVBC. The goal of this series is to establish how our congregation, deacons, and pastors/elders can bring glory to God through their respective roles. This Sunday, I will focus on explaining the role of the congregation in bringing glory to God. The following Sunday will focus on the role of deacons. Then, beginning on June 5, I will focus on the role of pastors/elders. This will likely take a few sermons to cover.

How does our Grace and Truth Discussion fit into this series? This is a third step toward clarity. After preaching on the role of the congregation, we will exercise one aspect of its role by gathering together on Wednesday evening to identify where areas of confusion exist regarding church leadership and decision making. The goal of this Grace and Truth Discussion is not to finalize a position, but rather to begin the conversation. Please join us both Sunday morning and Wednesday evening in person; your involvement is essential.
