Farm to Table Dinner
Lakeside will host a Farm to Table Dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 4 on the Hotel Lakeside lawn. This unique event, in partnership with local farmers and restaurants, will bring fresh ingredients for a spectacular meal along Ohio's Most Beautiful Mile.
Light Up Lakeside
All are invited to take part in Light Up Lakeside from Aug. 4-11. The event is a combined effort of Lakesiders to celebrate the summer by showcasing the entire community in lights. Although winners will not be chosen this year, show your creativity by decorating your cottage, rental, camper, business or golf cart. Christmas lights, lanterns and luminaries are all encouraged.
Lakeside Welcomes Gardening Enthusiasts
From Tuesday, Aug. 1-Friday, Aug. 4, Lakeside is once again excited to host former Ohio First Lady Hope Taft and the members of The Friends of the Ohio Governor's Residence and Heritage Garden here along Ohio's Most Beautiful Mile for third time.
Submit Photos in the Annual Photo Contest
Lakesiders of all ages are invited to submit photos to be featured in the 2018 Calendar of Events brochure, as well as on Lakeside's social media pages, website, The Front Porch blog, Lakesider newspaper, advertisements, etc.

Religious Life
Preacher of the Week: The Rev. David Felten

The Rev. David Felten will serve as Lakeside's Preacher of the Week from July 30-Aug. 3. He will preach at the 10:30 a.m. Hoover Community Worship Service on Sunday, July 30 in Hoover Auditorium. His sermon, "Letting Go of a Perfect, Error-Free Bible," is based on 2 Timothy 3:14-17.

Chautauqua Lecture Series
"Medical Questions & Decisions"
With continued medical advances come new questions, which need to be explored. Paul Hoehner, MD, Senior Clinical Associate at Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, will speak on the physical health/spirituality connection and biomedical ethics. In addition, representatives from Sincera, a palliative care organization, will explore questions related to coping.

"Natural Gardens for the 21st Century"

In collaboration with The Friends of the Ohio Governor's Residence & Heritage Garden, Lakeside welcomes the return of award-winning garden designer, Amanda Patton.

WAR
The band who was daring enough to carry the name WAR in 1969, when peace was the slogan of the nation, will bring their timeless message to Hoover Auditorium. WAR is best known for popular hits "Why Can't We be Friends," "The Cisco Kid," "Low Rider," "Spill the Wine" and many more songs that helped define an era.

Family Program in the Park: Back to the Wild 
A special Family Program in the Park will feature the rescued animals of Back to the Wild under a tent on the Hotel Lakeside lawn. See bald eagles, owls, hawks and other animals while learning about the work of this wildlife rehabilitation and nature education center, located in Castalia.

Hoover Movie Night: "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" (PG-13) 
On select Monday nights during the summer, Lakeside showcases a family film in Hoover Auditorium. On Monday, July 31, Lakeside will feature "Star Wars: The Force Awakens," starring Daisy Ridley, John Boyega and Oscar Isaac.

Mark Nizer
The phrase "nothing less than brilliant" has been used to describe the outrageous comedy antics and expertly crafted juggling feats of Mark Nizer. As one of the greatest entertainment comedians and jugglers performing today, Nizer's wild exploits have landed him on MTV, HBO's "Just for Laughs" and alongside the likes of Arsenio Hall, Bob Hope, Jerry Seinfeld, Gladys Knight, The Temptations, Ray Charles and Barry Manilow.

Lakeside Symphony Orchestra Concert "Beethoven's Wig"
Beethoven's Wig is one of the most honored musical groups in family entertainment. Richard Perlmutter's witty lyrics set to well-known works of classical music have earned Beethoven's Wig four Grammy nominations, five Parent's Choice Awards and 50 national awards.

Six Appeal
Six Appeal is a vocal ensemble infused with impeccable comedic timing and the energy of a rock band. Swearing off instruments, the award-winning vocal band will take Lakesiders on a journey spanning decades of music, performing classic oldies, current chart toppers and catchy original tunes, all sung a cappella.

Maureen McGovern "Looking for the Light, A Spiritual Journey" World Premiere
Maureen McGovern, a world-renowned artist, will sing songs of inspiration and faith for Lakesiders during the world premiere of her program "Looking for the Light, A Spiritual Journey." McGovern collaborated on this new project with Michael Shirtz, who serves as the producer and musical director for it.

Pickleball Tournament 
A Pickleball Tournament will take place beginning 9 a.m. Friday, Aug. 4-Saturday, Aug. 5 at the Williams Tennis Campus. The tournament will feature a variety of youth and adult divisions, as well as singles and doubles divisions. Sign up for the Pickleball Tournament at the Williams Tennis Campus by 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 3.
 
Mouse Island Sailing Race
The 24th Annual Mouse Island Sailing Race will take place at 9 a.m. Saturday July 29, weather permitting. Registration is free and will begin at 8 a.m. at the LSC. Trophies will be presented at the Regatta Awards presentation on Sunday, Aug. 6. This race is organized by the LSC and the Society of Old Salts (SOS).

5k Raccoon Run & One-Mile Fun Run Walkers, joggers and runners of all ages will take to the streets of Lakeside on Sunday, July 30 for the 37th Annual 5k Raccoon Run and One-Mile Fun Run. The One-Mile Fun Run  will begin at 8 a.m., followed by the 5k Raccoon Run at 8:30 a.m.
 
Sweetheart Doubles Shuffleboard Tournament
The Sweetheart Doubles Shuffleboard Tournament is a one-day event held on Thursday, Aug. 3 with no entry fee. "Sweetheart" is loosely defined as "for one tournament to a lifetime." This tournament is for age 16 & older. Sign-up begins at 8:30 a.m. and closes promptly at 9 a.m. Play begins shortly after entries close, and there will be a break for lunch.

Wooden Boat Rides & Sunset Cruises

Dock/Information Center
These 30-minute rides begin at 6 p.m. with the last ride departing at 7:30 p.m. The cost is $20 for adults and $6 for children (ages 4-12).
Hour-long sunset cruises aboard Amazing Grace start at 8 p.m. The cost is $32 for adults and $10 for children (ages 4-12). Children age 3 & under are not permitted.

"Star Wars" Family Night

Hoover Auditorium Porch
From 7-8 p.m., come in costume to play "Star Wars" themed activities for all ages, including Jedi Training, Stormtrooper Bowling and "Star Wars" trivia. There will also be a parade around Hoover at 8 p.m. Prizes will be awarded to the best costume.

Online registration with credit card payment opens at 8 a.m. each Thursday for the following week's classes.

Candlelight Symphony Showcase
This showcase will be held from 8-10 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 9 to raise funds for the Lakeside Symphony Orchestra (LSO). Tickets are $40 per person.

Labor Day Weekend 
On Sunday, Sept. 3, the Lakeside community will gather to celebrate the 144th Chautauqua summer season. A community-wide photo will be taken by a drone at 6:30 p.m. on the dock, weather permitting. 

Employment Opportunities
Immediate openings that will run several weeks beyond Labor Day are available in Housekeeping, Maintenance and Event Set-Up Team. There are also openings until Labor Day at the Williams Tennis Campus, Hoover Auditorium, Orchestra Hall and Pool Support. Kids Needed to Deliver Lakesider Newspaper
At 9 a.m. Fridays, kids (ages 10-15) are invited to the Legacy House, 217 Walnut Ave., to deliver Lakesider newspapers.

On Saturday, 12 children (ages 6-10) are needed to hand out the Lakesider on the Hoover Auditorium porch from 7:30-8 p.m. Report to the porch at 7:15 p.m. Friday delivery is available until Aug. 19, and Saturday delivery is available until Aug. 5.

Volunteers will receive their choice of a free Coffee & Cream soft-serve ice cream coupon or miniature golf coupon.

Trash & Recycling Services
This week, trash collection is Wednesday and Friday due to the holiday. Recycling is only collected on Fridays. Place trash and recycling bins on the curbside by 7:30 am.
