From the Farmers Market @ St. Stephen's

Market Day: Saturday, October 1, 9 a.m.-noon

Inside at 9 a.m. this week!

It's an exciting week at the market, with two big changes:

  1. As always, market hours change to 9 a.m-noon the first Saturday in October.
  2. Because of the tropical storm conditions that are expected this weekend, Saturday's market will be inside the St. Stephen's fellowship hall! This means you can come and shop from all your favorite vendors and stay dry and comfortable while you do. There will be a couple of vendors in the parking lot, so be sure to stop by on your way in or out.

Please note that a new building policy says that dogs are no longer allowed inside at the market, so please leave your pets at home. They don't want to come out in the rain anyway! (All pets are most welcome at Sunday's Blessing of the Animals service.)

This week's vendors

Visit our Web site for an up-to-date list of vendors and their contact information for pre-orders.

Count down to hours change: 0 markets!

Don't forget that this Saturday, our hours will change to 9 a.m.-noon.

Environmental Stewardship at St. Stephen's

Did you know that St. Stephen's has a newly re-formed Environmental Stewardship group? This group of parishioners and staff work together on educational offerings, outreach activities, and encouraging sustainable practices.

The next working group meeting will be on Monday, October 10 from 5:45 to 7:00 p.m.. All are welcome to join! Contact Barry O'Keefe to learn more.

The group also has an eco-spiritual book club. The next meeting will be this coming Monday, September 26, 6:30-8 p.m. The book selection for the month will be The Cosmic Pilgrim - A Spiritual Explanation of the New Story of Religion & Science, by Margaret McIntyre. Contact Sue Wootton for more information.

Market policies

Remember to visit the website to see a list of this week's vendors, their products, and contact information for placing pre-orders. Please also familiarize yourself with these policies before visiting the market:

  • Customers may not enter the market area before the opening bell at 8:00.

  • Please maintain 6 feet of personal space around you, especially when waiting in lines

  • No bicycles, scooters, skates, etc. are allowed within the market boundary (strollers are fine). There is plenty of space to "park" near the welcome tents.
Market parking and transportation

Sometimes parking in the lot on Saturday mornings can be tight. Here are some alternatives:

  1. Try taking the bus. All rides on GRTC buses are currently free. The #77 Grove Avenue bus stops right by St. Stephen's at Grove/Three Chopt every hour on Saturday mornings. Take a look at the route map and schedule here.
  2. Ride your bike. Saturday morning is a great time to try riding your bike in the city since there is no rush hour traffic. We have plenty of bike parking at the market.
  3. If you need additional car parking, there is plenty outside the Three Chopt entrance to the sanctuary and the Cafe @ St. Stephen's. You can always park there and take a short walk along Grove or down the alley between St. Stephen's and St. Bridget's.

Blessing of the Week

Lord, make us instruments of your peace. Where there is hatred, let us sow love; where there is injury, pardon; where there is discord, union; where there is doubt, faith; where

there is despair, hope; where there is darkness, light; where there is sadness, joy. Grant that we may not so much seek to

be consoled as to console; to be understood as to understand; to be loved as to love. For it is in giving that we receive; it is in pardoning that we are pardoned; and it is in dying that we are born to eternal life. Amen.

--Prayer attributed to St. Francis, from The Book of Common Prayer, p. 833
