Happy February!
Punxsutawney Phil says we will have six more weeks of Winter, but Georgia's General Beauregard calls for an early spring. Regardless of the outcome, we are excited to be offering multiple fun programs and events indoors and outdoors to keep us all warm and entertained!

Although February is the shortest month of the year, we hope to make this the most impactful and rewarding month of the year for you all; and for all of the amazing young women we will be able to help through our charity.

We are eagerly looking forward to celebrating Valentines with you all at the Valentine's Gala on February 11th, and help a special cause so near and dear to our hearts. Our January program taught us how to live more thoughtfully and be more aware, and we hope this carries over into you joining our new Yoga Interest Group, led by Belinda Vogel.

Please contact Danna or Lisa if you have any questions.

BreathingBreathing and Yoga: January Program

Thank you to our own Lisa Flynn for gracing our January monthly meeting with her wisdom on breathing and yoga. Lisa talked about the benefits of cultivating awareness of our breath.
  • We tend to breathe shallowly and hold our bellies in, increasing our stress levels and insomnia.
  • Breathing more deeply creates a relaxation response in the body and a more open mind.
  • She recommended several resources for breath practices and yoga, which you can view on web site.
Lisa recommends yoga poses that move the length of the spine for a brief practice; cat/cow pose, alternating knee hugs, reclined twists, a knee bent forward fold standing or seated, and shoulder openers. We practiced a simple shoulder opener during the meeting;
  • Sit tall and take one arm straight out to the side and back, to your own degree.
  • With the opposite hand on your heart, take the thumb of the outstretched arm back.
  • Hold for several breathes and then switch sides.
  • End with both hands over your heart.
Remember, to live more thoughtfully breathe deeply and relax your belly!
