Plan now for next deer season

Now is the time to scout your deer hunting ground. Look for rubs and scrapes from last year. Chances are these areas are used year after year. Start planning for the 2017 season based on what you find from last year. The following four tips should help you scout more effectively.

Certified Wildlife Habitat®
Recognize your commitment to wildlife and certify your yard, balcony container garden, schoolyard, work landscape or roadside greenspace into a Certified Wildlife Habitat®.

By creating a natural garden with native plants, you are providing essential elements of wildlife habitat: food, water, cover and a place for wildlife to raise their young. Add a water source - such as a birdbath - and follow sustainable gardening practices, and your garden will not only be wildlife-friendly, but it will qualify as a National Wildlife Federation Certified Wildlife Habitat®.

In addition, a portion of your processing fee supports the Conservation Federation of Missouri and National Wildlife Federation's programs to inspire others to make a difference. The fee is waived for schools Pre-K to Grade 12.

Certified Wildlife Habitat® application HERE.

Governor Youth Turkey Hunt
Registration Deadline is April 1st
The Governors Youth Turkey Hunt has been a very successful event over the last 8 years. This special experience serves as a celebration of Missouri's outdoors as well as a recruiting and retaining tool for future hunting enthusiasts.

This year marks the 9th Annual Governor's Youth Turkey Hunt, and the first for Governor Greitens. The Conservation Federation of Missouri, National Wild Turkey Federation, the Missouri Department of Conservation, elected officials, private landowners and other volunteers all contribute to the success of the event.

Space for the Governor's hunt is limited. Applicants must be between the ages of 11 to 15. Ideal applicants are first time hunters or those rather new to hunting. Remaining openings will be given to youth with previous hunting experience.

For the application and more information visit here or contact John Burke at jburk@nwtf.net.  All information is  due by April 1, 2017.
