Join us for Knit Nights
on Wed/Thurs from 6-8pm.

Every Saturday morning from June to September, the Peoria RiverFront Market brings together artists, craftspeople, fresh produce vendors, musicians and selected exhibitors from across Illinois in a European-style open air market.

FYI: due to the market, Saturday parking (until noon) tends to be more crowded.  Should you have to park farther away, the market has a free golf-cart shuttle.
Begins July 3rd!

The next mystery KAL with Michelle from KnitPurlHunter continues with an exciting two-color hat design that is an adaptation of one of her most popular patterns.  The hat is "brimming" with new techniques sure to dazzle knitters of all skill levels.  It is the perfect portable project for your summer travels.  Sizes baby, child and adult

Bonny- Sample in Store!

The Fiber Universe will be closed on Friday, July 4th and Saturday, July 5th.  We will reopen with normal hours on Tuesday, July 8th.

We just love July; our birthdays, sipping cold drinks on warm nights, and knitting up our favorite lace projects in silk, linen or cotton.  Erin is working on a lace tank top, Bonny, in 100% silk, and Melinda is just re-finishing the Reef Knot Tank in CoBaSi, a mix of cotton, bamboo and silk.  We have some great new silk, hemp and mix yarns in store now- check out the "new in store" section below.  We'd be happy to help you pick out the perfect summer project- so stop in!

We are also getting ready for Le Tour de Fleece, which begins July 5th.  To help achieve those tour goals, this month we will offer a fiber blending class and a class on spinning art yarns.  Next month, we will return to knitting based classes with a toe-up sock class, and offer our first group rigid heddle project weaving class. Still time to get a beginning lesson too!

Happy Fibering, and thank you for your continued support!

Le Tour de Fleece begins 7/5!

We will once again have a Wildcard team.  Loose guidelines of the tour:

  • Spin every day the Tour rides, if possible. Saturday, July 5 through Sunday, July 27th. Days of rest: Tuesday, July 15th and Monday, July 21st. (Just like the actual tour.)
  • Spin something challenging on the challenge day (usually the toughest high mountain stage: this year, it's Stage 14, on Saturday, July 19th, when they climb over 3,000m at grades from 4-6%).
  • Wear yellow on Sunday, July 27th to announce victory. Why not wear yellow on any day you feel particularly successful? (Yellow is the color of the race leader in the Tour - but here we are all 'race leaders') Other colors if desired: Green (sprinter - think FAST), Polka-dot (climber - as in uphill), and white (rookie).

Traum Seide
once you touch it, you will know why!  Lace projects often demand intense focus and hundreds of hours of work. The finished product is usually a jaw-dropping feat of technical skill. Traum Seide is a true laceweight, a thin glowing strand of 875 yards of unadulterated 100% Mulberry silk.
