The Fijian Lali

Greetings Ministry Partners,

A lali is a wooden drum carved from a single piece of wood. It is used by Fijian tribes to communicate with one another. They use different rhythms to announce births, deaths and wars. Lali drums are also used to call the people of an area together for community events such as church services. Wouldn’t it be great if we could just beat drums to announce the good news of salvation through Christ? But no; the gospel is too complicated for drums. Making disciples takes dedication, hard work, and patience. The gospel must be communicated by proclaiming God’s Word. Not only that; its truth must be evidenced in our lives. Let me tell you about our activities in May. I will also tell about how our graduates are reaching out to the community and how our students are spreading the Gospel even while they are being trained.

We appreciate your prayers and support.

Staff Update

Pastor Melvin Caindoy led a Teacher Training Workshop (TTW) in Dumaguete City for four pastors of the Evangelical Free Church of the Philippines. Please pray that these four pastors will start training church leaders in their respective towns.

Pastor Mabano started a new class at Galilean Heritage Great Commission Baptist church with Pastor Geofrey Lamis as host. Pastor Geofrey is a CCI graduate and he will be one of the teachers of this new class.

The CCI alumni in Malaybalay City under the leadership of Pastor Wello Sulatan and Pastor Regis Jabonga have formed a partnership with the local government of Quezon, Bukidnon. Under this program, the pastors will teach organic farming to the local farmers with the aim of creating opportunities to share the gospel with the community. Please pray for this endeavor to spread the Word.

Pastor Ferdie and Pastor Bert of California organized a Teacher Training Workshop (TTW) in Narra, Palawan with the invaluable help of Pastor Juley Juarez, who hosted the event at his church. We trained the 29 participants in the use of our curriculum. We are planning to hold more TTW’s and other seminars in Puerto Princesa, Bukidnon and other places later this year.

Testimony

Testimony of a student who just finished Course 2: Old Testament Survey:

“This book is so glorious! Though it is so heartbreaking in a sense, how the magnificent creation or paradise was cursed after the fall of man or how sin entered humanity and cursed all creation. It does not disappoint us by giving us hope that makes it glorious - the glory of Christ, the Restorer of the curse! For me, what makes the Old Testament such a glorious study or book is, that it has revealed who Christ is from the beginning!

“As Colossians 2:16-17 states, that the Old Testament is the shadow of the new covenant, it is because Christ is the reality or substance of the broken (redemptive sense) one. Above all, it does not only reveal the role of Christ for the restoration of everything, but most importantly about His sovereignty and deity - that He is God! And this is what our spiritual goal and life really is according to God's will- to know more and deeper about Christ.”
