In the Northern Hemisphere the winter season is officially in full swing, and our December/January travels and adventures will result in stories to be shared for years to come (with shifting memories with each retelling). Our generous calendars afford us time to travel, visit friends/family, explore new places, rejuvenate, and reflect. It’s the final countdown to winter break and to the New Year!
While other professions are closing down their fiscal year with year-end sales meetings and fourth quarter reports, the education world takes pause and reflects on goals, accomplished projects, learning growth, and initiative progress. We wrap up these thoughts to create space for what’s to come, and these reflections propel and motivate us forward into the second semester, when conversations take a more permanent tone with ‘What if…?’ evolving into ‘Now what?’ And as we all know, because it’s a l-o-n-g haul between January’s return and Spring Break, it’s this time when we usually dig into the work and get ’er done.
So, with fresh ideas underway and yearly goals at the half-way point, there’s no time like December and January to dig into the ‘Now what?’ by asking reflective questions of ourselves and our teams, honing in on empathy efforts, and by holding ourselves and others accountable …
