The Final Form of Love

“Nothing that is worth doing can be achieved in our lifetime; therefore we must be saved by hope.

Nothing which is true or beautiful or good makes complete sense in any immediate context of history; therefore we must be saved by faith.

Nothing we do, however virtuous, can be accomplished alone; therefore we are saved by love.

No virtuous act is quite as virtuous from the standpoint of our friend or foe as it is from our standpoint. Therefore we must be saved by the final form of love, which is forgiveness.”

-Reinhold Niebuhr

Worship in Frampton Fellowship Hall

Please remember that Sunday worship will take place in Frampton Fellowship Hall at 9:30 a.m. for the next few weeks. The Sanctuary is now closed while the current organ is being dismantled and removed to make way for our new organ!

SUNDAY, JULY 28 MOVIE:

INSIDE OUT*

SERMON (9:30 a.m. WORSHIP)

“Anatomy of the Soul”

MOVIE VIEWING & DISCUSSION

Sunday | 5-7 p.m. | Land Building

*rated PG for some action and heavy emotional content

Great for the whole family!

Bring a blanket to snuggle up with or stretch out on as we watch together.

A great crowd gathered for last Sunday's viewing and discussion of the movie Lion. Chris Currie's sermon focusing on the film can be heard in Sunday's service recording on our YouTube channel, and his sermon transcript can be found at this link.

New Landscaping Project

Now that the exterior of the church buildings has been beautifully cleaned, the property committee wished to refresh our landscaping along St. Charles Avenue to visually showcase our magnificent sanctuary to all in our community who pass by. We look forward to our new plantings being revealed soon!

Volunteers Needed for YAV House Cleaning

This Saturday, July 27 from 9 a.m.-noon the Young Adult Volunteers need your helping hands! Please join us for a deep clean of the beloved “Big Green House” as a final farewell to the 2023-24 YAV's. A clean house will be a wonderful welcome to the 2024-25 YAV's. All ages of cleaners are welcome! Inside we will clean the floors, appliances, windows, and furniture. Outside we'll weed, mow, and rake gravel. YAV Site Coordinator Dan Wally Lang will coordinate volunteer signup, supplies, and snacks. RSVP via email to dan@pbysouthla.org and Dan will provide the exact address in Gentilly.

Chris Currie to Preach at Montreat

We are pleased to announce that SCAPC's own Chris Currie will be preaching this Sunday, July 28 at the Montreat Conference Center as part of their Summer Worship Series. The service recording will be viewable on the series webpage.

Blessing of the Backpacks

Our next ‘Worship Short’ will be a Blessing of the Backpacks on Sunday, August 11 from 6-7:30 p.m. at Okra Abbey Community Garden on the corner of Hickory and Eagle Streets. Join us for family games and activities, dinner, worship (including a back-to-school backpack blessing for students), and mission outreach to our neighbors in Pigeon Town.
