September 2021
As our famous Indian summer begins to set in and small hints of fall are in the air, I reflect on almost 9 years of my life spent here with an amazing organization, incredible, talented staff and wonderful families. I can tell you I’ve seen the good, the bad and the ugly transform into one of the most revered ABA centers both nationally and internationally and I just smile! The road was rocky in the beginning and there were times that we didn’t know if we could do this, but the one thing that drove us every day was that our families needed us and without a Firefly, there would be a deep unfillable hole left behind for all Coloradoans. I’ve watched this organization go from wondering how we’d keep the doors open, to an organization that is vibrant and healthy both from a business perspective but also from a people perspective. I am proud of our partnerships with sister organizations, our school district partners and with all our foundations and donors who have always believed in the mission of Firefly and have been side by side with us as we’ve changed lives.

Firefly Continues to Innovate and “Re-Imagine the Future” in the world of ABA Therapy, Diagnostics and Research. The team here are by far the top in their fields and the expertise runs extremely deep. Though my transition is soon from Firefly to 9News, I know by serving on the Board of Directors for this incredible organization will allow me to continue to bring support and watch the new energy build on the foundation that has been laid. The Board of Firefly is not just a powerhouse Board, but one of the hardest working Boards I’ve ever had the privilege to work closely with.

I’ve always believed that great leaders understand change and allow it to keep their organizations fresh and innovative.  Though it has been a difficult decision and bittersweet, I will be able to still have an impact through my role at 9News and my service on the Board helping to grow the development arm of our organization. I will miss our staff and the kids we serve every day, the external relationships with our school districts and sister organizations, but most of all I will miss those little moments and breakthroughs that always reminds us of the importance of the work here and how one tiny moment can be the change for lifelong success for not only the person we’re working with, but their entire Universe! I’ve always said, “Once a Firefly, Always a Firefly” because it’s not just about the physical center itself, it’s about the mission and the way Firefly touches each of our hearts! Thank you everyone for allowing me to lead a team that I’ve learned so much from also, but most of all, have changed my life with so many of those tiny moments!

Abrazos, Jesse
The news is out, and many of our readers are already in the know… but in case you haven’t heard, change is in the Firefly air.
This month is the final month for not just one but two of our senior leaders.
Our Chief Clinical Officer, Ken Winn and our Chief Executive Officer, Jesse Ogas will both resign their positions in the coming weeks. Jesse will remain with Firefly on the Board of Directors to ensure continuity.
Both leaders have steered our organization to the place it is now; with more stability and more promise than at any time in the past. They have been on the cutting edge of ABA science and application. They have introduced bold new initiatives to serve more people on the autism spectrum, they have provided innovative professional learning opportunities for staff development. They have often been synonymous with each other, Jesse and Ken, Ken and Jesse; our leaders, shining brightly.
We are excited for their big opportunities ahead but feel the impending void of their personalities no longer in our halls.
On behalf of the staff and clients of Firefly Autism, we want to say “thank you.” You have both given so much to Firefly, sacrificed beyond measure to ensure our growth and stability. You are responsible for where we are today and we are so excited, not just for you and your futures, but for the path you have led us on and the opportunities ahead of us because of your vision and passion.
Happy trails, Ken. Adios, Jesse.
Hundreds riders from all over the country joined together on August 21 at Bandimere Speedway in an effort to break the largest ever women's motorcycle rally. Over 500 women riders registered for the event from 22 different states. Although the world record was not set at this event, other records were made that day! The oldest biker was 78 and the youngest... only 15!! There was also a 2021 Royal Enfield Himalayan that was given away. Thank you to Big Iron Sports for that bike. The largest club to join us came all the way from Tacoma, Washington! The day was a blast, with over 20 vendors and DJ Frankey Jay and Skware Pegs spinning on a 42,000 watt system! Thanks for the support, all who participated. Proceeds from the event went to Firefly. You can see the rest of the pictures and video from the day at

Colorado Gives Day is an annual day of giving back to your favorite Colorado nonprofit organizations. Started in 2010 by the Community First Foundation, the 24 Hour local philanthropy drive has become an important part of the annual budget cycle for many organizations, including Firefly.
The reason for the added impact of this event? All donations made to Firefly during the day are augmented by a $1 million dollar incentive fund. In 2020 we had $40,000 dollars of donations! This year Colorado Gives Day is set for Tuesday, December 7th. As you are planning your year-end giving, please remember Colorado Gives Day and your donation on December 7th can provide the most value to Firefly. To learn more about this day visit our page at:
You can pre-schedule your donation starting on November 1. Thanks, as always, for your support of Firefly Autism.
Meet Samantha Fullington

Sam is a BCBA in Firefly’s home-based program. Originally from Missouri, she moved to Colorado in 2019 for a change of scenery and better weather. She began her ABA journey as a special education teacher in Kansas City, where she saw the incredible impacts that behavior analysis had on her students. Samantha has been with Firefly for a year and a half, during the time she worked as an RBT while completing her supervision hours and coursework through CU Denver. She received her bachelors and master's degree in Early Childhood Special Education from the University of Missouri, and finally passed her boards in July 2021! She is passionate about behavior analysis, early intervention, and access to health education for all learners. We are excited to see Sam take on her new role as a BCBA & continue to extend her reach in the ABA community.
Thanks for being part of the Firefly family, Sam!!
