The Alliance for Green Heat has announced the third year of firewood bank funding in partnership with the U.S. Forest Service.

2023-2024 Grantees: Final Report PAST DUE

If you received funding in 2023-2024, please submit your Final Report. The link to this report should be in your email inbox. Firewood Banks that fail to turn in their final report will not be eligible for future funding. If you have questions, please email darian@forogreenheat.org.

Health effects of wood smoke

Check out Burn Wise's page on ways to protect your health while using firewood. The Alliance for Green Heat will be attending the National Tribal Forum on Air Quality in May to explore more opportunities to raise awareness on the health affects of smoke in wood burning communities.

Wendell Wood Bank uses $10K grant for equipment, storage shed

“‘I was really excited and grateful to be able to support our community that much more and be able to not depend on DCR, who’s been loaning us their equipment to process the wood,’ Dornbusch said, adding that it gives the town ‘a little more independence.’”

From wasted timber to heat for families, Buckland, MA

“Buckland is joining several area towns by creating a community wood bank, in which salvaged trees will be cut and split and made available to Buckland families for use in their wood stoves.”

“A DCR study found that about 50% of energy-insecure homes used some form of wood heat, either as the main heat source or as a backup for oil heat.”
