Summer has arrived and with it comes all of the typical outdoor fun like campfires, cook outs, and fireside entertaining in the back yard. The EPA features some great reminders about this classic summer activity. Read more here!


Don't burn old pallets. Before 2005, pallets everywhere were injected with toxic and carcinogenic chemicals like methyl bromide, check your pallet for any treatment information, common stamps include DB (debarked,) HT (heat treated,) MB (methyl bromide,) KD (kiln dried,) and EPAL (European Pallet Association.) Never burn pallets stamped with MB.

When planning your next adventure, leave your personal-use firewood at home and always use locally sourced firewood to deter the spread of pests and diseases! Review each state's laws and regulations around firewood transport here and review invasive species here.


Only transport wood that has been heat treated back home. This extra step raises the core temperature of firewood to a standard temperature that treats the wood for emerald ash borers, a major pest and threat to forests in the U.S. Read more about it here.

National Forest Foundation - Wood for Life Coordinator

Full-time position (WFH Flexible, Flagstaff, AZ) that will manage projects and support partnerships to implement the Wood for Life tribal fuelwood initiative and other key forest health projects throughout the Southwest. Wood for Life is a partnership that connects biomass and small diameter timber from restoration projects with communities that rely on firewood for home heating and other uses.
