2025-2026 Firewood Bank Funding

Firewood banks and firewood distribution programs may now apply for the 2025-2026 grant cycle of the Firewood Bank Assistance Program!

It's important that all potential applicants review our Guidelines and FAQs before beginning the application. A big change for this year is that all grantees must currently source, or have a documented plan to source, some or all firewood from federally managed lands. It is also acceptable if a firewood bank has logs on site that were previously sourced from federally managed lands.

Montana: Online fuelwood permits make stocking up winter firewood easy, affordable

Personal-use fuelwood permits issued by the Butte, Dillon, Lewistown, Malta, Miles City and Missoula field offices cost only $5 per cord and can be applied for online. While this article highlights Montana's permits, many National Forest or BLM offices offer this type of permit at varying costs. Letting recipients know about these kinds of opportunities, especially those who are able-bodied and have the right equipment, could help them supplement their firewood needs beyond what the firewood bank provides.
