The Future of Work is Diverse, Inclusive, Just and Equitable
GlobalMindED closes the equity gap by creating a capable, diverse talent pipeline through connections to role models, mentors, internships for low-income students, returning adults, First Gen to college and inclusive leaders who teach them, work with them and hire them.

The First African American Director Of Heart and Hand Center: Meet Timiya Jackson
Relationships, culture, and community are the core of Timiya's personal and educational philosophy. Over the past 15 years, she has worked with youth in underserved communities through both the education and the nonprofit sectors in Atlanta, Pittsburgh, and Denver. Timiya holds a BA in Secondary Education/English from Point Park University and a Master's in Organizational Leadership from Fort Hays State University.
Timiya is the first African American Executive Director of the Heart & Hand Center. This nonprofit organization provides free after-school, summer, and career and college readiness programs for youth in Northeast Denver. In addition to the school programs Heart & Hand also provides 1:1 mentoring services for high school and college-age participants.
She is passionate about working with unprivileged populations and advocating for social justice, and enjoys spinning, crafting, or spending quality time with family and friends when she is not working.
What community-driven projects have you spearheaded/participated in that you are proud of? What did you take away from these experiences?
At a very young age, I found a love of reading through interactive Storytime. I volunteer as a reader with the Read Aloud Program through the Denver Public Library. Being able to watch student imagination come to life through storytelling keeps me young at heart and always brings me so much joy.
As a leader, what motivates you to move forward in adversity? Where do you find your passion?
Knowing that some people who have come before me worked extremely hard to ensure that I can have a seat at the table. I hope to continue to knock down barriers to ensure that the next generation continues to have access and opportunity.
What do you see yourself doing in the future? Next five years? Ten?
In five years, I'll be wrapping up Heart & Hand's strategic plan, which has a lot of initiatives in it, but I'm excited to get started. Then, in the next ten years, I plan to successfully run my own school that meets students where they are to help get them to where they want to be in ways that are engaging, project-based, and with tremendous amounts of rigor.
