Captain's Spotlight
To kick off our Captain Spotlight series, CQuest Marine would like to introduce Captain Larry Aaker of Larry Aaker Guide Service.

Many of us have a dream for ourselves. We set goals and achieve them as we press onward in the pursuit of happiness. Captain Larry's dream was to become a Captain and teach people how to fish. That warm California sunshine beaming down, taking a boat cruising on the water, and sharing in the excitement of sport fishing is a dream he shares with many. Unfortunately, the work it takes to get there can seem overwhelming for many as well; but Captain Larry has made it happen, and his dream has come true!

Captain's Corner
Weekly questions answered by our Captains about the ins and outs of running a passenger vessel.

This week we asked some of our Captains this question:

"How do you handle rowdy passengers?"

Here's what we got -

- "Kill 'em with kindness." - Captain Larry Aaker, Larry Aaker Guide Service

- "Manage them to make sure that they're safe" - Captain Maury Hatch, First Hatch Guide Service

- "Let the clients know from the start about what's expected. On my boat clients can bring alcohol, but they've got to control it. You have to inform them and be firm." - Captain Dave Hammond, Delta Pro Fishing

Frequently Asked Questions
Here we cover the Who - What - Where - When - Why and How of Captain's Licensing
One of the questions we are asked most often is:
"How do I document my sea time?"
Most of our Captains have their own vessels and self-certify their sea time  by completing the Coast Guard form and providing ownership documents. You will not be asked for logs, fuel receipts or anything of that nature. They ask for your "best recollection" of time underway. If needed, you may claim time on more than one vessel using a separate form for each vessel.
If your sea time is on vessels owned by someone else, the signature of the Owner, Operator or Master is required on the sea service form.
