Those Summer Temps are Fading Away,

but SCS Programs aren't Going Anywhere

We're enjoying the cooler temps, and getting excited for the autumn season. Did you know yesterday was the first day of Autumn? Those gentle breezes are reminding us to feel thankful for the change of seasons! This week we want to share a little history lesson before we dive into the newsletter.

German astronomer Johann Gottfried Galle discovered the planet Neptune at the Berlin Observatory on this day in 1846.

The blue gas giant, which has a diameter four times that of Earth, was named for the Roman god of the sea. It has eight known moons, of which Triton is the largest, and a ring system containing three bright and two dim rings. It completes an orbit of the sun once every 165 years. In 1989, the U.S. planetary spacecraft Voyager 2 was the first human spacecraft to visit Neptune.

So, stay neptuned for your weekly Friday Five updates!

2. SCS runs on volunteers! Check out the ways you can impact the lives of Delco seniors

Members of Independence Blue Cross (The IBX "Blue Crew") provided a day of service to Aging at Home members today. They completed yard work, beautified gardens, prepared senior homes for the upcoming fall/winter season. This important work is what helps Delco seniors maintain their independence. SCS is grateful to IBX for supporting Aging at Home and providing volunteers!

Are you interested in volunteering with SCS?

Contact Michele O'Brien at (484) 496-2149 or at [email protected]

There are plenty of meaningful volunteer opportunities at SCS! Deliver meals to homebound seniors, share your skills at the senior center by becoming a class instructor, or get a group together and do a day of service like our friends from IBX!

5. Enjoy Your Tech Tip of the Day!

Tech Tip of the Day:

Be wary of unrealistic offers

If something seems too good to be true, it probably is an online security threat. Emails and websites that claim you won an extravagant prize or offer “free” giveaways in exchange for your personal information are likely to be scams. Unless you specifically remember entering a contest, it is best to ignore online messages about prizes and special offers.
