1) SCS Board of Directors Says Farewell to Angela McCarthy Keynote Speaker Dr. Salman Akhtar, MD, speaks on
"The Nature of Time"
| |
On Monday night, SCS' Board of Directors, management staff, and guests gathered to look back on the previous fiscal year and make plans for the year ahead. This important annual meeting is crucial in keeping SCS responsive to our changing world and its effects on the older adults of Delaware County. At the meeting's conclusion, attendees wished Angela McCarthy all the best as her term of board service concludes. Thank you Angela for your work to help keep Delaware County's older adults happy, healthy, and independent!
|
The night's keynote speaker, Salman Akhtar, MD, introduced by an SCS friend, April Fallon, gave a deeply thought-provoking talk on "The Nature of Time."
Age, among many other things, can change our perception of time. As we enter our 60s, which Dr. Akhtar compared to the fourth quarter of a football game, our perception of time might become skewed.
We might find ourselves eyeing the clock, and wondering when time will run out. Perhaps it's more helpful, and enjoyable, when we focus on what we're doing with our time as opposed to how much of it we've got left. Cherish your loved ones, and do your best to fill your time with purpose, compassion, empathy, laughter and fun.

3) Friendship Circle Weaving
at the Lansdowne Farmers' Market
| |
Thankfully, the rain held off on Saturday, September 30 for the Lansdowne Farmers' Market, where Friendship Circle Senior Center's Weavers were selling some woven goods. People from West Philly, Darby, Lansdowne, and Clifton Heights stopped by the table to marvel at the mesmerizing demonstration and to purchase goods! What a wonderful way to brighten up a gloomy day. Thanks to everyone who stopped by!
