What is going on at Woodsounds?

Last summer I told Julia, "I am going to reinvent the way Woodsounds makes flutes." This has been accomplished in spades and I could not be more pleased.

One of the biggest changes made is in how we voice flutes. This new technique improves the tonal quality of all of our flutes. They are smoother and fuller than ever.

Additionally, I have altered some of the critical measurements on our flutes and I am holding the flutes to a much higher tolerance than every.

All these changes have allowed for a higher rate of comments to my wife like, "Oh my goodness Julia! You have got to hear this flute! I can hardly believe the sound we are getting." Yup. This conversation happens a lot in our house in 2024.

During this last year, I have focused on bringing our flute backlog down. When I started Woodsounds, I always wanted a 4 to 6 week delivery on a Custom Flute. We are not quite there yet, but we are within 8 to 10 weeks. Julia and I are thrilled that this is the current case.

In March, I began taking photos of flutes while they are in the process of creation. This is now being done for every flute we make here at Woodsounds. These images are shared the client(s) while the flute(s) is being made. An, of course, we share these images on our social media platforms.

Julia and I thank each of you for your continued support and love. We are so grateful to you all for the music you make with the instruments we have created. We are thrilled to be a small part of the joy you bring to the world.

The first Woodsounds Masterpiece Flute:

Intention

When we first came up with the flute category name "Legendary Flutes", one of our flute makers thought we should call that category "Masterpiece Flutes". At the time, I was not comfortable with using this title. That time has past. Intention is the first Masterpiece Flute from Woodsounds.

Intention has a smooth full round voice that holds its music space easily while caressing the ears with joy.

This flute is made from the last Brazilian Rosewood Burl we have here at Woodsounds. In 24 years, this one burl is the only Brazilian Rosewood Burl I have been able to locate. Offering this flute is a bit bitter sweet for me. I have really enjoyed knowing I was going to have another Brazilian Rosewood Burl flute to make. But now, who knows.

All of the white on the flute is Wooly Mammoth Ivory from Siberia.

The flute also comes with the flute stand seen in the photos.
