Military Appreciation Month is a month-long celebration every May that raises awareness and honors the contributions and sacrifices made by all military personnel. Among the many events that honor those who served, there are six key observances: Loyalty Day, Public Service Recognition Week, Victory in Europe Day, Military Spouse Appreciation Day, Armed Forces Day, and Memorial Day.

Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month is observed throughout May and designated to pay tribute and honor Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States. May "was chosen to commemorate the immigration of the first Japanese to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to mark the anniversary of the completion of the transcontinental railroad on May 10, 1869" as "the majority of the workers who laid the tracks were Chinese immigrants."
