February is Black History Month
Black female WWII soldiers inspire generations of Black women in the military
FORT LEAVENWORTH, Kan. — More than 75 years after World War II, a group of African American female soldiers in the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion are being honored as heroes.
They faced racial and gender discrimination while completing a record-setting pace to get mail to soldiers on the battlefield. A monument at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, now details their heroic efforts, and thousands of Black women soldiers and veterans are expressing their appreciation to the battalion known as the Six-Triple Eight.

"Brig. Gen. Hazel W. Johnson-Brown: Becoming a nurse was Hazel W. Johnson-Brown’s dream. She attended the Harlem School of Nursing. Her career began at the Harlem Hospital as an operating room nurse after completing her studies.

In 1955, seven years after President Truman eliminated segregation in the military, Hazel W. Johnson-Brown made the decision to enlist in the U.S. Army. She impressed her superiors with her incredible talent and taking multiple assignments across the world."

The Military Sisterhood Initiative Winter Membership Drive
During this unparalleled year of challenges and trials, the Military Sisterhood Initiative (MSI) has proved indispensable to many women Veterans and servicewomen seeking connection and support through these isolating times. For this reason, MSI’s parent organization, Challenge America, is pleased to announce its winter membership drive.

They are asking for your help to connect an additional 10,000 women Veterans to their inclusive and supportive community. Their community includes women Veterans from all eras of service, who share a safe and welcome space that fosters friendship, sisterhood, and resource sharing. Moreover, they have announced exciting new offerings and happenings on MSI designed to combat social isolation by encouraging women to share their experiences and discover new resources.

"The Military Sisterhood Initiative allows us to see the best of who we are in the eyes of another woman. Helps us to share the good and bad of our journey. Having a bond with individuals who will always support you no matter what."
