Honoring the Past, Defending the Future
|
|
Older than the nation it defends, the U.S. Army has made a difference in the history and founding of America. This year we are celebrating how America’s Army has challenged, empowered, and equipped our Soldiers, because “Be All You Can Be” is more than just a slogan, it's the Army way of life. Since its official establishment on June 14, 1775, the U.S. Army has played a vital role in the growth and development of the American nation. Drawing on long-standing militia traditions and recently introduced professional standards, it won the new republic's independence in an arduous eight-year struggle against Great Britain.
The U.S. Army Women's Foundation celebrates the legacy built over the Army's 249 years of history and displayed in the dedication, courage, and heroism of the American Soldier.
Happy Birthday, U.S. Army!

Juneteenth: Commemorating Freedom and Advancing Justice in the United States Army
|
|
Staff Sgt. Rashida Jones assigned to Ft. Stewart, Georgia, shares what Juneteenth means to her. "To me, Juneteenth is remembering the many sacrifices made by my ancestors for our freedom of equality and hope for a better future. I am grateful for the opportunity to serve my country with the freedom and rights that I have today. Their sacrifices have allowed me to serve equally with my brothers and sisters in arms."
Juneteenth, also known as Freedom Day or Jubilee Day, is a national holiday celebrated on June 19th. If you’re unsure what Juneteenth is or how to celebrate, here’s where you should begin.

June is LGBTQ+ Pride Month. The DoD is dedicated to establishing an environment that optimizes individual talents, boosts morale, and improves military effectiveness. Diversity encompasses more than just race, gender, and ethnicity; it also includes a variety of thoughts, abilities, backgrounds, languages, cultures, and skills. During Pride Month, the DoD celebrates the equality and rights of LGBTQ+ individuals, commits to diversity and inclusion across the Armed Forces, and takes pride in its civilians and Service Members. Whether an officer, enlisted, civilian employee, or family member, their inclusion gives DoD components better aptitude and opportunity.
On June 5th, Deputy Secretary of Defense Kathleen Hicks; Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness Hon. Ashish Vazirani (PTDO); Division Director for Operations in the Information Environment Rear Admiral Mike Brown; and Unity Deployment Manager for the 70th Operations Support Squadron Sgt Koko Kakumu presented remarks at the 13th Annual LBGTQI+ Pride Ceremony in the Pentagon.

Want to Make a Difference This Year?
Sponsor a Birthday Fundraiser for the AWF
|
|
Make YOUR day a power-packed day. Create a birthday fundraiser on Facebook as a popular way to give back to a cause you're passionate about on your special day. What better way to unite people than with a birthday or other special date?
SIX EASY STEPS:
1) Go to your Facebook account (or create one here!)
2) Go to your 'Home' page, and look on the left side column. You should see the 'Fundraiser' option under "Create" at the bottom. Click on "fundraiser" and Facebook will walk you through it.
4) Set your fundraising goal and time frame. We've seen many successful fundraisers at $200 or even $500 or more! Set a goal you feel good about and see where it goes!
5) Invite people on your friends list and engage with them! This is key. Invite, invite, invite! Please remember that not everyone will see something when you post just once. While some may be hesitant to ask people on their friend's list, remember you allow them to participate in something beneficial.
6) Thank people as they donate and watch numbers go up! People donate to the Army Women's Foundation because of YOU - because they love you, appreciate you, and think you're the bee's knees (and we do, too!). And then, have fun.
