May is Military
Appreciation Month
May is Military Appreciation Month, honoring those in and out of the military. Not only do we pause on Memorial Day to remember the sacrifice and service of those who gave all, but this month also commemorates other military anniversaries and events, including Military Spouse Appreciation Day and Armed Forces Day.
As we observe this year's Memorial Day on Monday, May 27, let us remember to honor the Women and Men who lost their lives serving our great country and the Families of the Fallen. For all those in our AWF family, partners, and allies who have served, and who continue to serve, we thank you and we appreciate you!

Remembering When
From AWF 2nd Vice President and Board Director, LTC Mary Spring, U.S. Army Retired.

I'm likely one of the few Board members old enough to have been a member of the Women's Army Corps (WOBC, 1968) - and long after any of these volunteers of these Women's Army Corps. Nonetheless, happy 82nd anniversary to the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps (WAAC), established/signed into law on 14 May 1942.

WAAC became WAC (Women's Army Corps) on 03 July 1943. WAC was disestablished by an Act of Congress on 29 October 1978.

All things in time.

May Female Mentoring and Morale Program
(FMMP)
May is guaranteed to be another Amazing FMMP session! We have the pleasure of having one of our Army’s Social Media "Sheroes" who has become an internet sensation for her efforts in virtual mentorship to the masses!

We will have SFC Latoya Greene on our next session scheduled for Thursday, 23 May, from 1800-1930 (EST) on Zoom. SFC Greene is not only a phenomenal Soldier, Leader, and Mentor, but she is also a “Change Agent” for the Army and a Social Media Influencer. SFC Greene was recently inducted into the Army Woman’s Foundation Hall of Fame, receiving the Champion’s Award for her work in leading the Army to change how they determine Body Mass Index (BMI) for Soldiers, especially women. Her efforts led to the Army publishing Army Directive 2023-11, announcing the new way the Army determines BMI.

SFC Greene also made a name for herself outside of the Army, by winning several powerlifting competitions and for earning the title of “Strongest Woman” on Fort Cavasos. She used her Social Media platform to provide mentorship through her Army “Motivation Monday” videos, building a network of over 900K followers who tune in, weekly, to hear her guidance and recommendations on how to navigate through the Army and life in general. Finally, SFC Greene has been a Certified Personal Fitness Trainer for 7 years and has created her own Fitness Program and Pre-Workout that can be found on her website titled Fitness With Toya – Link to site: (Fitness With Toya (fitwithtoya.com)). With this site, she is committed to helping Soldiers and civilians meet their physical fitness goals while building confidence and motivation to help people reach their full potential.

Join us on Thursday evening, to hear the great advice of one of the Army’s most dedicated NCOs who has devoted her career to helping shape the lives of our Soldiers, Civilians, and the Army as a whole.
