All are encouraged “to attend” by watching the ceremony.
March is Women's History Month
A look back at the Black Women’s Army Corps members of Fort Knox during WWII
FORT KNOX, Ky. — They came from all across the United States during World War II, each with goals and dreams: and plans for life after the Army.

When the hundred or more Black women who had joined the Women’s Army Corps began arriving at Fort Knox starting in July 1943, few knew their collective experiences within an all-Black WAC section of 1550th Service Unit at Godman Airfield would eventually span beyond racial boundaries to help guide the nation on a path toward racial equality.
LOOKING BACK AT OUR HISTORY: Women as warriors have a long history
The American experience with true women warriors—not just our wonderful Hollywood Wonder Woman—has only recently begun. However, with the benefit of recent archaeological discoveries and re-examinations, we can say that women have been warriors—or certainly hunters—for millennia.

When the U.S. ended the draft in 1973, women represented only 2% of enlisted personnel and 8% of the officer corps. Today the figures for the officer corps are significantly higher across almost all services. As of 2018, women represented 19% of the Army officer corps, 19% of the Navy’s, 21% of the Air Force’s, and 8% of the Marines’.

At Walmart, we are grateful for the sacrifice our nation’s veterans, military men and women, and their families have made in service to our country. It is not only our duty, but our honor to support our men and women in uniform not only when they are on the battlefield, but also when they return home and transition to civilian life.

We are committed to helping these men and women as they face this important period through job opportunities, as well as support for programs that provide the job training, transition support and education they may need.
